As Hiccup woke up, he groaned with a pounding headache. He pushed himself up, only to realize his body felt different. It didn't react the way he wanted it to, and there were weird sensations from seemingly extra parts of him. As he stood up on all fours, Hiccup realized what he was. Somehow, he had turned into a Night Fury. Trying to get the hang of his new body, Hiccup slowly walked out of the cave and straight into Nightwings.
"Watch where you're going... Wait a second, who are you? I'm the only Night Fury around, yet now you show yourself?!?" Initially indignant, Nightwings' expression quickly changed to one of shock.
"Hey Nightwings, do you know what happened to me?"
"Hiccup?!?" Now Nightwings was just baffled, he had no idea what had happened. Then, a majestic voice interrupted their not-so-private conversation.
"Ah, well done my son. A Night Fury is a powerful dragon, without the encumbering size of others. You will do well with this dragon as your other self."
Hiccup quickly turned to his father, saying, "What do you mean, other self? Does that mean I can change between being a human and being a dragon?"
"Yes, you need only concentrate on one or the other, and your body will change to your will. This is your last ability, now you are fully equipped with all of your skills, you just need to hone them. Nightwings, I want you to teach Hiccup all about being a dragon as fast as possible. A war is coming, and I want him as well equipped as he can be."
"Yes, your majesty. Come on, Hiccup! Let's go fly!"
"Coming, Nightwings! I can't believe this is actually happening!"
"Me neither, let's go!"
The two Night Furies now raced outside, Hiccup growing faster as he adjusted to being a dragon. When they reached the outdoors, Nightwings immediately took off, waiting for Hiccup to do the same, before he realized that Hiccup really knew nothing. So, landing, he started explaining all that goes into flying.
"The key to flying, at least at the start, is to get a good, strong launch off the ground. You want to have enough room that you can flap your wings, so a high jump is critical. Fortunately, you have some experience with this, as you already had that ability before getting your wings. Now, let's practice. Don't flap your wings, just try to jump as high as you can."
