She took a deep breath and walked out onto her balcony, bracing herself for whatever he had to say.

He had done the same, worry filling his mind that she would soon be done with him and all of this would be over.

It was ending soon enough, he was leaving in 8 days time to go back on the road. He didn't want to tell her though because he was afraid of what would happen between them.

"Kiwi," she called out into the darkness. She squinted her eyes to see his shadow opposite of her.

"Canadian," he smiled.

He noticed something different about her. There was not a scent of smoke around.

"Where are the cigarettes," he asked, his eyebrows furrowed.

She shrugged her shoulders and smiled.

"I smoked out front about 10 minutes ago. I wanted to waste less time on that and more talking to you."

After all, she got the news today. It was abrupt but she knew she had to spend as much time with her mystery boy as possible in the next week and a half.

"So how about we finish that game," she suggested.

He smiled wide and nodded his head.

"Bring it on, Canadian."

She thought for a moment.

"Favorite Green Day song?"

"Jesus of Suburbia," he replied. "You?"

Her eyes had grown wide but nothing stopped the smile from forming on her face.

"You better not be fucking with me Kiwi, because that's mine."

He laughed lightly.

"No fucking way, we have something in common."

She scoffed sarcastically.

"Shut up fruit, we're not that different. Now onto the next question, favorite country you've visited?"

"America," he shouted enthusiastically. "And yours?"

"Australia," she smiled.

"And why is that," he smirked.

She rested her elbows on the railing and held her head in her hands, peering up at the dark blue sky.

"It's been amazing here. I like it way more than Canada."

"What's wrong with over there," he asked concerned.

She let out a loud sigh as she continued to stare up at the stars.

"It's just not where I belong I guess. I never really fit in. Over here, there's nothing really for me to fit into. And I've met some cool people."

His cheeks turned bright pink.

"Am I-uh, um-"

She rolled her eyes.

"Of course you are Kiwi. You're actually probably the coolest."

He bit his lip to conceal the large smile growing on his lips. His mind raced through thoughts of this amazing girl standing about 15 feet away from him. He knew so much and yet so little at the same time. He didn't even know her name.

"I have a question for you," he said out of the blue.

"Shoot," she replied.

"Why did you move here?"

She cradled her head, bobbing it back and forth.

"My dad is in the military back home. He got sent over here to work with some other officers. I'm an only child so I go everywhere with him even though I'm eighteen."

"What about your mom," he asked carefully.

She looked down towards the ground sadly.

"She um, died a few years back. She was murdered."

"Murdered," he whispered in shock.

She nodded her head slowly even though she was sure he couldn't see.

"It's still unsolved," she croaked out.

"What do you want to pursue now, Canadian," he asked quietly.

"I want to be a homicide detective. I want to solve my moms murder."

"Then why are you here, you should be going to college."

She shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly, but her mind was working overtime. I am, she thought, in 2 weeks time.

"I'm here for my father," she stated. "He's been having a harder time than me since it happened."

He tried to process all of this information. No wonder she wanted nothing more than to die, there was pretty much no one left for her.

"Anyway, onto another subject, Kiwi. Why do you stay out here with me every night?"

He smiled though no one saw.

"You're an interesting person Canadian and I want to be there for you."

"You fill my void at this time, Kiwi."

She was on the verge of tears after talking about her mother but she still smiled.

"I don't want you to be lonely, you're too beautiful for that."

She rolled her eyes.

"You don't even know what I look like."

"Well then, your shadow is beautiful anyway."

"Please don't tell me you're one of those cheesy people."

He grinned to himself.

"No promises."
