Eric's POV:
Darkness.
Gloom.
Sadness.
Despair.
These four words describes my people.
My kingdom.
The evil Merope had predicted all of those years ago had indeed come. Just as she said it would.
My father and a bunch of brave mermen had fought bravely. Trying to rid us of the evil, but to no avail.
Only a few came back alive.
So many lost to us forever.
Fathers, brothers, husbands, uncles.
All gone.
Just like my dad.
He was one of the fallen....
The man I had looked up to my whole life.
The king I wanted to be...One man who went by Theses told us the tale as he was being treated. I won't say for it is to gruesome of a tale, but you can imagine I am sure.
The survivors and I retrieved the fallen and took them back to the kingdom for a proper ceremony and burial.
They deserve at least that.
Another loss came as well.
My mom, the queen.
She passed away a few nights after father was buried.
The cause of death: a broken heart.
She I had a ceremony and was buried beside her beloved in the royal cemetery.
I am the only one left to carry on the bloodline which might be why the council is pushing me to find a bride.
I am alone.
Stuck forever at the age twenty.
That's right. When they came, among many things, a spell was casted, making us forever the age we were and to this day still are.
Never growing, never changing.
I am the king. The crowning ceremony did occur about a month after my parents burial.
What should have been joyful and happy, what my parents should have been there for, but weren't, was quite the opposite of joyful.Indeed alto has transpired including the fact that I had asked merope to hound me in the castle to which she agreed to do.
It was easier this way.
Every day she had new predictions, new information, new update on the enemy.
Also, it was getting close to the time when the " chosen one" would join us.
According to her, the girl has already had the warning from one of our own once she was checked into the hotel which was staffed by many of our own for her sake.
That and she has seen the cave."So, soon?" I asked merope in the throne room.
She nodded, " yes, very soon. If I had to guess I would say about two more weeks until she comes.0
"Good." I sighed, " we'll not good, but."
She held up her hand like she did that one time, " I know. You don't have to explain. I am not to fond of it myself."
Going to the window which allowed me the view of the whole kingdom and its people while putting my hands behind my back I say rather despairingly, " my people suffer so and there is nothing I can do."
"No your highness. That is not true." She answered in a firm voice.
"You are their king. You give them hope. Yes, it is hard to stay strong, to not let them see what you actually feel, but as long as they see that strength, that hope in you then they will be the exact same. They look up to you your highness and I know you will not fail them."Turning away from the window I tell her, " it wasn't suppose to be like this."
"No," She said rather softly, " it wasn't."
Both of us going through the doors of the throne room to our rooms I thought , please... please come.
We need you.
I need you.
