I rolled over, sleep still clouding my eyes as my arms reach forward into the warmth beside me. My cold fingers cause chills to cover his skin and he rolls to envelope me in his arms. I can feel him smiling against my neck as he becomes my personal heater, easily warming me in seconds.  I hum in contentment and turn into him, my hands placing themselves comfortably on his chest.

"You were amazing last night," I whisper. He begins to pepper light kisses along my jaw and cheek. My fingers are tracing the ink that dons his chest in swirls of color. He chuckles and pulls me closer to him.

Buzzing noises cause me to wake from my delirious state.

"Babe...your phone," I mumble, still smiling, all caught up in our little moment of temporary bliss. Rolling over and reaching away from the bed, his hand feels around for his phone, causing the bed to move with him.

Quickly he presses the phone to his ear, his voice hoarse and deep as he uses it for the first time this morning.

"Where the hell are you?" A very displeased voice shrieks through the other line. I feel him go stiff beside me, and I the same as I remember the truth of our situation.

"I'm at Jake's," his voice was so casual I wouldn't be surprised if he had shrugged.

"Why wouldn't you answer?" The voice berated, obviously pissed.

He groaned softly as he sat up next to me. I couldn't help but notice the warmth between us had turned chilled.

"I was tired, babe.." He wasn't really trying to console her, but I knew he didn't have to. No matter what was said, nothing was changing between us. My eyes burn as I'm reminded of my position. My worth. The answer to that age old question: what are we?

We are nothing. Nothing short of lovers. Nothing short of coworkers. But I am nothing short of in love with him.
