I must've fallen asleep, for I woke up to the sweet screaming of my aunt telling me I was late for my for my first day of school. I was barely waking up when she came stomping up the stairs her hair in a huge frizz caused by stress.
" I've told you so many times already to get your ass up and go to school!" My aunt yelled. She exasperatedly looked at her watch and rolled her eyes. She pointed at her watch and help up ten fingers before trampling back down the stairs. I rolled onto the ground and removed the blanket my aunt had put on me while I was sleeping.
Padding down the stairs I took a quick detour to the bathroom to check that I didn't look like hell. Quickly rinsing off my face at our new sink, I felt a burst of energy as the cool water splashed across my face. It finally dawned to me that I could be late to my new school, clearly I was not going to impress my teachers. I gave a quick look that I was wearing something that would be socially accpeptable, as I ran like bloody murder towards the car.
My aunt was already there, impatiently tapping the steering wheel, " Alright lets go, we're already late and we are supposed to meet the principal to give you a tour, I already missed the landlord." she murmured. I got comfortable in the seat until I widened my eyes with horror, "Wait I forgot my-". My aunt held up my school bag, and I sighed in relief.
" Okay NOW we're going." My aunt huffed as she pulled out of the driveway. She glanced over at me and glued her eyes back towards the road, sadly her mouth refused to stay shut, " Are you excited for your first day?" She asked.
I sighed into the window and turned fully towards her " Auntie it's fine. I'm just getting a tour of the school and going to introduce myself to the teachers. It is the middle of the semester so I'm not going to start right away." I explained.
" I know," she murmured. " I was just trying to start a conversation." I refused to look at her knowing that her lips would be formed in a pout. Things have been tense since she first told me about the move.
I surveyed the area. We had driven under a little arch that said 'Welcome to Cadestelle' with roses surrounding the word 'Cadestelle'.
" You know this place isn't even listed on the maps," she chuckled, attacking the silence to attempt a conversation again, " the only reason how I could've known about this place was through my job offer."
I focused only on the outside, ignoring her feeble attempts at talking to me.
" When I found the job, it looked so easy and the pay was reasonable. So I said why the hell not, and we packed our bags and here we are!"
The clouds were grey and cloudy, what a surprise.
" And the houses were so lovely Nadia, that I gave in. I knew you would love the one we bought because of that room upstairs. The owner was a writer you know,"
The town was..small, I cringed when we passed the population sign. Three-thousand people. My old school was almost that size.
" I think the owner was even related to Charles Dickens himself, and I knew right off the bat Nadia will love this!"
Jesus Christ was she still talking? I continued to look outside, muffling out her words. We were nearing a large building with evergreens decorating the sides. In the front there was a large sign that read 'Cadestelle High School Built in 1864.' My aunt pulled up to the side, still talking.
" Nadia, don't be mad at me. I'm doing this for you." I heard as I stepped out of the car. I whirled around to tell her exactly what I thought of this whole thing, but she had already driven away. I groaned in an effort to let out some of the emotions I was holding in, but let it go and walked towards the school.
