I hobble around, trying to find my damn parents. I finally ask a lady at the desk about them.
"My dad, he has short brown hair and he's wearing a black shirt and brown jeans. My mom is pretty short and she has 50's red glasses on with gems. She's wearing a pencil skirt and has long, blonde hair. Oh, and my dad, he's like 6 ft. 10."
"Based on that description, they just left." The women says. I frown and waddle back to my room.
"Ugh! Why didn't they just tell..."
"Ryann! I come bearing homework and a burger!" Jonah says as he slips into my room. I laugh and snatch the burger out of his hands.
"Homework too?" He demands, not really asks.
"No thanks, I'm good." I say with a mouth full of food. He laughs and shoves the homework in my face. I push it away as I chew my food.
"Hey! This is precious food here!" I say.
"And this is precious homework." He protests.
"But food" I say, "is much more precious than stupid homework."
"Is food more precious than me?" He asks. I choke on my burger and cough.
"No, but you're much more precious than homework!" I say, hoping he won't realize that I'm being sarcastic.
"And why is food more precious than me?" He asks, obviously concerned that I was breaking up with him.
"Because you can't survive without food!" I say.
"And you can survive without me?" He cries, offended.
"People that don't know you can." I say. "But, I might not be able to."
"Might?"
"Jonah, I have to tell you something."
"What babe?"
"I'm a les."
"What's that?"
"Gay."
"How long have you known?!" He screams.
"I fainted cause of it." I cry.
"Damn, how stupid am I? That's why you hugged me. That's why I'm not as precious as homework."
"Jonah! You're not stupid! You're the first person I've told..." I say as I hang my head down. I hear no response. I look up, and Jonah is storming out of the room. I burst into tears. Nurse Cora speeds into my room.
"What hurts?" She asks speedily.
"My heart!" I cry.
"Heart attack in room 217!" She cries helplessly.
"No! My boyfriend just broke up with me!!" I bawl.
"False alarm!" She yells.
"You can go, if you want." I look up at her with pleading eyes. All I can think is, stay! Please! Don't leave like him! And she understands. She stays. She calms me down and says I will find another boy.
"No. I'm gonna find a girl. I found out I was lesbian yesterday, that's why I fainted!" I scream.
"Okay then. You're going to find a girl. You are going to find a wonderful girl that fills your heart with joy. And that girl, she'd be lucky to have you." Cora says calmly. She accepts me. Like I know my parents never will. And Jonah won't either.
