It had been four weeks since the morning I had made breakfast for Liam and his mates and we had grown considerably close since then. I felt like I was one of the boys now. I felt like I had known them all my life. We were all just the best of friends. Mum was, and still is, very suspicious though. I think that she's under the impression that I'm secretly dating one of them. Or maybe she just doesn't like them because, let's face it, they are hilariously immature sometimes. But oh well, I mean they're my friends not hers.
I was in the kitchen making myself a sandwich when I heard a knock on the door. Mum was at work so I abandoned my wholemeal bread and opened the door. There was no one there. I shrugged and went back to my half made sandwich. I was searching the cupboards for some sort of spread when the there was a knock at the door again. I opened the door only to find all five of the boys with birthday hats on singing happy birthday! I can't even remember telling that today was my birthday! I ushered them in and they all sat at the kitchen bench.
"Thanks so much guys!" I said giving them all hugs. "But how did you know today was my birthday? I can't remember telling you!"
Louis gave a mischievous look and replied with "We have our ways!"
"CAKE TIME!" Harry shouted as he produced a small cake from a plastic bag.
"You guys even organised a cake? Wow. Oh. My. God. Is that caramel mud cake?" I asked excitedly.
"Yeah..." Zayn answered. "Why?"
"Caramel mud cake is my favourite cake on the whole entire planet! I haven't had one at home since Mum and Dad got divorced because it reminds Mum too much of Dad but on my birthday I would always sneak out and get one!" I said without taking a breath. "Wow. I'm getting really excited about a cake aren't I? Sorry about that. Anyway thank you so much guys!" I gave them all hugs again. I grabbed some plates from the cupboard and distributed the cake. We all sat on the couch in silence whilst we at the cake.
"So... what plans do you have for today?" Harry asked.
"Nothing actually. Mum's been really tied up with work because she's had to do some over time so we can afford the rent and all. So yeah I was just planning to chill today. Probably check out the swell back home. Maybe ask the girls back home to go for a ride on my old skateboard for me. I mean, I don't want the wheels to get stuck." I sighed. I missed my skateboard more than anything.
It was only when Louis re-entered the room that I realised he had left. He had a ton of boxes and bags in his arms which he dumped on my lap.
"Happy birthday!" he said. "They're from all of us. Except that one in the blue box. That's from Liam."
I started in shock. "All this? All this is for... me?"
"Well it is your 18th birthday!" Niall exclaimed.
He was right. It was my 18th birthday. It was my 18th birthday and I had completely forgotten.
"Well are you going to open them? Or should I just take them all back?" Louis asked.
I stared at the pile, not knowing where to start but I then picked up a red box. I opened it and found a pair of red Vans inside. "Oh my God! How did you know guys! Thank you so much!" I reached for another box and then another and another until I only had one box left on my lap. It was the blue one. The one from Liam. I picked it up and started unwrapping it. I lifted the lid and was speechless. It was a skateboard.
"It's the same model and everything like the one back home!" I turned it over and saw that the bottom had the same drawn design as my one back home. "It has the exact same design on it as well! Hang on," I said noticing that the wheels were worn. "Is this... Is this my board? Is this my board from home?"
Liam nodded. "OH MY GOD. THANK YOU SO MUCH!" I squealed as I jumped on him and engulfed him in a giant hug. I released him from my embrace. "But how? How did you get it?"
He wiggled his eyebrows. "A magician never reveals his secrets!"
I threw a pillow at him and everyone burst into a round of laughter. Harry looked at his watch and then cleared his throat. "Alright, we better be going." Then he looked at me and said. "We'll pick you up at seven! And make sure you're ready!"
"Ready for what?" I asked.
"You'll see!" the boys replied in unison as they headed out the door.
