parking the car in the familiar driveway in the familiar neighborhood that i grew up in felt wrong. it didn't feel like home at all. but i peered through the sidewalk and felt a smile creep up my face when i saw the familiar car in the driveway a few houses down from my old one.

i locked my car and walked towards the house. my heart raced as i knocked on the door, praying she was still living there.

my heart sank when i saw a man peer through the window and open the door. "hello? how may i help you." he asked politely, which took me off guard.

"uh hello s-sir, i think i have the wrong house im s-sor-"

"babe who's at the door?" the muffled voice came from behind the man. i gave him a small smile and started heading back to my car when her voice filled my ears.

"y/n?" her voice sounded shocked.

believe me i was beyond shocked. i couldn't believe that i had the courage to turn around and catch a glimpse of what i hadn't seen for 6 years.

"camila." ( the amount of dramaticness here is cringe om sorry lmao)

whom i presume was camila's boyfriend looked as confused as someone could ever be. might we add that we dated in secret for one whole year.. while she dated him.

"h-hey." i smiled awkwardly as her boyfriend searched for some answers. camila must have realized when her face got a bright red as she turned to her confused partner.

"-insert random guy name-, y/n. y/n -random guy name-. she was an old friend from school." she mumbled. i extended my hand out for him to shake and he took it. "nice to meet you." i said sourly.

"likewise." he grumped. the air filled with awkward silence when i brought myself to speak.

"uh i should get going. nice seeing you again cam." i rushed to the sidewalk as i realized i called her by the nickname i haven't called her in years. i scurried into the safety of my car and sighed.

at least i tried i thought to myself. i took one last look at my old "home" and pulled out of the driveway and drove off to a little restaurant next to the airport which was convenient.

all i wanted was to eat and head back to my home in santa monica and try to forget what i did just a few minutes ago. i parked my car and started heading into the restaurant when my name was called from behind me.

"y/n/n wait up!"

i turned around, confused seeing camila right there in front of me. "camila.. hey?"

"hi." she breathed out. "we need to talk." my eyebrow raised confusingly. "i would love too camila i would. but i have a flight in an hour." i cringed as i said those words. i didn't want to sound so cold but she's in a relationship. what would we talk about?

her face dropped suddenly and silence filled the air. my cheeks heated up seeing her so disappointed. "erm, wait. would you like to join me for dinner?"

"you have a flight to get to tho-"

"no worries. i just left out of nowhere one day without telling you. we do have to talk.  i loved spending time with you and i kinda miss it." i mumbled, looking down at the ground.

"you do?"she asked, cutely looking up at me. i nodded and held out my hand for her to take, and she did. i led her into the restaurant and we sat down at a table next to the window view of the airport.

"i need to explain so many things to you, but i have no idea how." i chuckled nervously.

"take your time." her hand reached for mine from across the table and held it. i sighed deeply and made contact with her coffee coloured eyes.

"i thought this place wasn't my home. that it didn't feel like my home anymore ever since my parents died. so i moved to california, and i didn't even tell you. i didn't tell you because i was scared."

"but as cringe as this sounds, i've learned that i feel like im home, whenever im with you. & not in a way where we can be friends but actually being with you.." i whispered.

"but you're happily in a relationship. i am aware of that now." i mumbled as quietly as i could, hoping camila wouldn't hear me.

"you're not too late."

she said that sentence so quickly that i didn't think she actually said what i think she said. "w-w-what do you mean?"

"you..aren't too...late." she said a bit slower. i wasn't imagining this then. what was she propositioning? she avoided eye contact with me as our food arrived.

as we ate in silence i began to ask questions in my head. wasn't she happy?
i thought.

"im r-really not happy." i heard her mumble. i just stared at her chewing silently in disbelief. nothing more was said until everything was eaten and i paid for the check. we walked out of the same restaurant with the same awkwardness filling up and boosting up my anxiety.

"well, have a nice life y/n/n-"

i kissed her. pressing my lips into her own for the first time in over a period of years felt incredible. i was surprised she kissed me back so quickly. i pulled away and asked her the most craziest question i could ever ask her.

"come to california with me." i sighed happily. she smiled softly and caressed my cheek. "i would love to but all my stuff is back at his house."

i rolled my eyes and took her hand, leading her to my car. "i'll get you everything you need and more. i just need you." i pecked her cheek and opened the door for her to get in. she did.

"i love you." she giggled. i gave her a grin and hopped in the drivers seat and drive towards the airport.

"i never stopped."
