Max stared down at her phone watching it blow up from Lucas's messages until finally it stopped buzzing. She sat motionless on her bed. She didn't cry, she didn't scream. She just sat there, thinking. She was sure that any adult would say that she was overreacting. She rolled her eyes at the thought of that.

sure, like in 9th grade it's not going to be a big deal that the whole school knows you have a crush on your best friend. and worst of all, you don't even know if he likes you back.

she shook her head to clear her thoughts. she couldn't like Lucas anymore. He had broken her trust. He had given Will the note which was supposed to be private. how could you like someone after they disrespect you like that? Max shuddered as she remembered her older brother and the amount of times he had lied, used, and broken her trust. she wasn't going to let people walk over her anymore.
