Johnathan zipped his jacket up more as he sighed. He walked the emptysidewalk of Los Angeles and gazed up at the full moon. Another night and he didn't find her.

He gave up and J-walked the street to get to the bar on the other side.

Just one drink, and he would go home to his boys. He hadn't had a woman to photograph in a while and to top it off he hadn't found his lifemate. He was starting to believe depression was making its wake into his emotions.

As he passed the alleyway he watched silently as a man and woman stood arguing outside of the punk rock establishment.

"She's my best friend Brody. You didn't think I would find out you were texting her?!" The petite two tone haired woman seethed, her emotions overwhelming, Johnathan sniffed the air.

Fear was seeping through her pores like an aroma incense. And it was fear of being struck by the big nearly overweight man that glared down at the young woman. He scared her, and Johnathan could not only smell but feel the anger and uncontrollable rage he held.

"Jessica, how many times do I have to tell you to stop raising your voice at me?!" He shouted at her causing her to flinch.

The young woman known as Jessica coward a bit, but the big bad Brody grabbed her wrist harshly and snatched her towards him. He reached his free hand and before he could lash across her face, Johnathan was behind him in the blink of an eye and held his hand back. He tilted his head at the human man.

"Putting your hands on a woman, is one of the most disgusting things in the world. It does not make you a man. It makes you a coward." He said through grit teeth his eyes itching as they glowed red.

Brody looked at Johnathan and his eyes widened in fear. "W-what the fuck?!" He shouted trying to pull himself out of Johnathan's grasp to no avail.

Johnathan kept his face calm as he squeezed Brody's wrist so tight he shattered the bones like glass. Brody cried out loudly, his body falling to his knees as he wailed.

Jessica was near the wall of the bar's backdoor her chest heaving in fright as she watched the scene before her.

Johnathan let the man's arm go and it slumped to his side. Brody tried to tackle Johnathan but he used some of his vampire speed to maneuver and dodge the blows.

"Weak. C'mon big man. Pick on a man instead of a woman." Johnathan teased.

"You fucking cunt!" Brody grunted. "Wait till I get my hands on your ass!"

"If you can get your hands on me, which is not likely." Johnathan said as he tripped the man and he fell with a loud oomph.

Brody groaned as he laid face first in the concrete. Johnathan turned his attention to the young woman who was staring at him as if he was the devil himself.

Johnathan's eyebrows rose in amusement. She was precious. Adorable even, his heart tugged at the sight of the bruise around her left eye. "Are you alright, dear?" He asked holding his hand out for her to take and lift her up.

Jessica moved back more as she whimpered.

"I'm not going to hurt you, sweetheart." Johnathan assured squatting to her level.

"You leave her alone!" Brody groaned trying to lift himself up.

"Do you care for this man?" Johnathan quizzed Jessica.

She shook her head no.

"Delightful. One second. I haven't eaten in days and anything will do right now." Johnathan said raising up and approaching Brody picking him up by his head and quickly twisting his head to the side killing him. He tilted his head to the side bared his fangs and bit into the mans neck.

Jessica trembled as she breathed heavily. She was so frightened she couldn't even move to run away.

She sat there the entire time watching until Brody's body was left as nothing but skin and bones, all of the liquid sucked from the two puncture wounds in his neck.

When Johnathan was finished he tossed his body in a nearby trashcan and wiped his mouth.

He stared at Jessica and tried to hold his hand out to her again. "He will not ever lay a hand to you, do you understand me?" He asked her. "You're safe now."

Jessica hesitated but reluctantly placed her hand in his and he helped her to her feet. She stared at her savior and watched as he turned to walk away.

"W-wait!" She called out to him.

Johnathan turned and she ran up to him. "Thank you, but...I have nowhere else to go now. If I go back to his house his mother will wonder where he is. And she doesn't like me very much." She said sadly.

"What about your own family?" Johnathan asked interested.

"I never knew them," She answered shrugging.

Johnathan nodded. He looked toward the street where he was walking then back at the young woman with the adorable gap.

He sighed. "Come you can stay with me, then." He said.

Jessica reluctantly followed. "So...you're a vampire, huh?" She asked rhetorically.

Johnathan laughed humorlessly. "What gave me away?" He played along.

"Inhumane strength and speed." She said.

Johnathan furrowed his eyebrows. "Are you sure it was not the fangs and the sucking your ex-lover dry?"

"Nope, that's normal with the crowd I know." She said seriously.

Johnathan smiled. "You are an alright Petunia." He grinned. "That's what we'll call you now. Petunia."
