Chapter 1

I put away my pencil and pick up my test so I can hand it to Ms. Carnose when she gets to my table. This was the easiest test so far. Ms. Carnose always gives the easiest tests. Well at least in my opinion.

Ms Carnose finally gets to my table. I give Ms. Carnose my test. "So? How was it for you?" She asks with a knowing smile.

"A piece of cake, too easy for me Ms. Carnose."

"That's my girl! My perfect student shines again!" She says while moving to the next table.

The bell rings and I run into the hallway spotting Rebecca right away and walking up to her.

"Rebecca!!!" I say as I get to her, "We have a free period together next. I just need to go to the office for a sec and I'll meet you . . ." all of a sudden I notice that she is wearing the cutest sunglasses, "Those are cool glasses, can I see them?"

I reach for the glasses. "Wait stop!!!" She says, but it is to late. I pull of her glasses, revealing the purplish bruise covering her swollen eye. I gasp and then my eyes narrow.

"It was HIM again wasn't it! I told you to leave that guy. Look he hit you again!" I say, mentally kicking Vincent in the balls."

"No!" She says. She looks around then pulls me into an empty room before she continues, "I made him mad. It was my fault!"

"No it wasn't! He has no right to hit you! Will you just leave that sorry slob already? I told you before...Just dump him!"

"Julie, I can't!!"

"What do you mean you can't? Just break it off. Look I will do it for you, just give me your phone."

"Julie, I can't leave him! He is blackmailing me!"

I freeze for a second, then say stupidly, but more softly, "What?"

"If I leave him..." She says slowly, "he will tell the police I sell drugs!" She speeds up, "You know I don't do that, but only God knows, and he will find a way to make me look guilty!"

"Tell the police! Tell a teacher! Tell somebody!!"

"I can't!! You have to help me Julie. You're the only one I can rely on!"

I shake my head in frustration. I know I give pretty good advice but this is over my head.

"I...I don't know what to do...." I finally say.

"Help please I don't know what to do!"

"I don't know either!" As i say this I see the anger grow on rebecca's face.

"Your useless!" She says and Its my turn to get angry.

"Excuse me! At least I wasn't the one who was stupid enough to go with him in the first place. I told you he was bad news. But did you listen to me? No!"

"I thought you were my friend," She pulls out her friendship necklace, the one I gave her when we were 5. "I thought you were supposed to help me through thick and thin!"

"Well, fine. If I am such a bad friend then...." I take off my necklace, "this is where our friendship ends."

Rebecca's eyes widen and she begins to backtrack "Wait.... I am sorry!"

"No it's too late for that. I have put up with you for too long already. Your ungrateful and you always expect too much from me, then you get mad at me when I don't deliver and I am tiered of it!" I see he hurt in her face as I say those words then, watch that hurt multiply as I throw the necklace to the ground but, I don't care because I am Tired of her.

I run off but, turn back in time to see tears streaming down her face.
