(super short; unedited)
From the front of the room the teacher's voice droned on and on, but Jungkook paid her no heed. Internally, he was begging to escape the sound of her torturous voice, yet on the outside his face remained blank and stoic, a mask he'd put on to hide himself from society. From the corner of his eye he saw the same petite girl from the hallway glance curiously at him, then blush and turn away when he caught her eye.
Strange.
Who was she anyways? She was always there. Just there. He saw her everywhere, in the hallways, at the cafeteria, and as he thought about, she seemed to be in all his classes too.
Maybe she wanted to be friends? For one moment his hopes rose, then dove and crashed when he realized his place in society.
A nobody.
It was just a coincidence, he told himself, squashing thoughts of friendship.
Who'd want to be his friend anyway?

Music class soon became Jungkook's favorite class. It was the one place he could be himself, the only place no one judged him for who he was. Instead of being pushed away and excluded, he was welcomed, offered a place in the complex environment of high school. He was a somebody. People came seeking advice for their songs, or asked for tips for their singing. Jungkook felt needed, accepted. Like people actually cared about him.
Once, Areum had given him the same love.

On an unforgettable Tuesday morning, the teacher announced an upcoming group project. It would be a duet, and the assignment was to write their own song and perform it at the annual concert. Jungkook's insides turned to ice at her words.
Images of sneers and taunting looks surfaced. All the bullies who'd made fun of him for the littlest things, his outfit, the way his hair looked, anything.
To perform in front of them? A nightmare.
He only half-listened as the teacher named pairs, students groaning and reluctantly walking over to their partner. His ears perked up at mention of his name.
"And finally, Jeon Jungkook and Kim Nayeon."
Kim Nayeon? He'd never heard of her before. He spun wildly around, searching for anyone who looked as if they lacked a partner, his eyes finally resting on the small girl from earlier.
So that's who she was.
And staring at the girl's blushing cheeks, vaguely aware of the judging stares of his peers around him, something in Jungkook's mind clicked.
He was gonna do well on this project. And he was gonna change what others thought about him. No matter what it took.

He soon found that harder than expected. For one, his partner, Kim Nayeon, rarely talked to him. Actually, she rarely talked altogether, but that was a completely different subject. How was he expected to write and perform a song if his partner never even interacted with him? So he took matters into his own hands.

"Um, hi." Receiving no reply from Nayeon, he plunged on. "I'm Jungkook. We're, um, partners for the music project?"
At this she glanced up quickly, met his eyes, then returned to staring at whatever paper she held.
"Um, when would you like to work on the project? We can do it at my house, or yours. It doesn't matter." There, he was finished. Jungkook let out a breath of relief he didn't realize he was holding.
"Wecandoitatmyhouseitsfine."
"Sorry, what?"
"We can do it at my house, its fine." She said in a whisper.
Oh.
"Sure, I guess. Um, could we exchange numbers, um, just for the project..." His voice trailed off uncertaintely, and he winced at his own words. Surely she'd say no. She probably thought he was a creep now, or maybe one of those guys in the movies that-
"Sure."
"Oh, um, ok, uh. Here's my phone." Fumbling in his for his phone, he watched her carefully type in her number.
"Thanks...Nayeon. See you soon."
note: i'm really bad at replying, sorry, but i'll try, i promise :)
