“They are coming in!” My hand automatically tightened on his stomach, clenching his shirt into my fist. My mind flashed to Payton, down in the club, not knowing that men were about to come in and light up the club. No pun intended.
“Liam!” I gasp up at him, alarm sweeping throughout my body. I began to wiggle from his grip, my fingers still wrapped around his t-shirt.
“Bea. Stop.” He attempted to get me to shop moving, but in my frazzled state, I managed to slip from his tight hold and had begun to drag him around.
“Bea, love, you have to stop,” His hands wrapped around my elbows, which were reaching for the door. Somehow he managed to pull me back into him, my wrists bending awkwardly because it was crushed in between our bodies.
“We have to warn them Liam,” I try to reason with him, believing he was just going to let them fend for themselves. My voice came out pleadingly, almost desperate like. His thumb rubbed across the back of my hand and then worked its way under my palm slowly working to unclench my fist and then intertwined our fingers.
“Here's what were are going to do, okay?” He spoke softly. I nodded along, knowing I should listen to him, even if my thoughts led me to believe he was going to leave them.
“We have to find Louis. The boys will be with him, and Payton will be with them. They will keep her safe. Okay?” He bent his knees forward so he was at my height. He seemed to gaze into my eyes, making sure I understood. When he was sure I did, he nodded to himself and then began walking towards the glass double doors. He still held my hand, squeezing it every once in a while in reassurance. Before we could actually cross the threshold into the club, there was a loud bang followed my similar noises echoing along the walls of the club. I whimpered, picking up my lagging pace and efficiently pushing myself into Liam's side. He wrapped his arm, the one holding my hand, around my waist, so my right arm was bent behind my body. When the music stopped and all we could here was the occasional bang of a gun, I leaped into Liam's path and he stopped walking, pulling me to a stop as well.
He noticed my frightened stance and lifted my left arm gently, and twisted it so it wrapped across the front of his body, my hand clinging to the side of his waist. He gingerly reached to my face, sweeping my pony tail off my shoulder and touched the back of my head, where my neck met my spine. I allowed him to push my head forward and rested my forehead against his rib cage. I guess the good thing about being short was that my head didn't reach his armpit. Then we began walking again.
“Can you read me?” I gave Liam props, because I assumed he was trying to distract me by getting me to talk.
“Sometimes.” By now, I guessed we were halfway down the hall.
“What do you mean?” I guessed that he had looked down at me, because his voice sounded closer. I sighed mentally, knowing the one time I could read him, it wasn't actually a pleasant emotion.
“When we first met, when Payton introduced us in the usual Payton way, you didn't look like you enjoyed being in my presence. Actually you looked constipated. If I were to guess, you weren't sure what to think. Which is why you seemed to want to push us away at first. All business and no pleasure. Which just seems to be your personality. Something changed now, hasn't it?” He faltered in his steps slightly but righted himself before I had the chance to look up at him. I did look up at him though and his eyes held some sort of puzzled glint. He blinked it away as our pace quickened and I looked away to notice we were right in front of the stairs.
“Listen to me alright?” Liam stated, “I might know these people. And if they who are I think they are, I want you to stay behind me or with one of the boys. No wondering off. Try not to speak. This is for your own good. These types of people don't take to kindly to woman as alpha. But I will not let anything happen to you. You have my word.” He pulled me down the staircase, after his speech, and the first thing I noticed was the empty dance floor. Liam was walking slightly ahead of me, but picked up on when I faltered. My grip had significantly loosened in his hold. To the point that only our fingers were connected. He looked back at me before nodding his head to the left. There, my friend stood tall next to Harry and Niall. Louis stood by himself in front of Harry, Zayn and Niall. They were all surrounded by men with guns. My heart beat steadily in my chest. Liam must have seen the panic on my face again because he pulled me into his body and tucked me under his arm. We stepped, together, past the dark concealing shadows and immediately found ourselves with multiple guns pointed in our directions.
