  ❧ The next period was art, which Hugo had with Evan. ☙  

On the way there, they walked together, although Evan didn't say a word to Hugo.

In class, they were learning how to fold origami cranes.

Hugo was the first to finish.

He looked sideways at Evan, who seemed to be struggling.

"Here," he reached out to help. "Just fold this back-"

"I don't need your DAMN help," Evan yelled at him, whipping the paper out of his reach.

Hugo jumped back, his eyes widened.

"I can do this by myself!" Evan spat, and moved away to another table.

Hugo looked down at his lap and he fidgeted his fingers. He got up from his seat and ran out of the classroom.

He ran to the washroom and locked himself inside a stall.

Tears threatened to fall down as he bit his lip and pushed the tiny sobs down his throat.

What did he do wrong? He was only trying to help. Maybe...maybe he should've asked Evan first if he wanted help or not. Maybe that would've made it better.

BRING! went the bell.

Shoot. He had history next with Evan too.

And come to think of it, if he and Evan didn't get along, then how was he going to face the rest of the boys? They were Evan's friends too.

Maybe it wasn't going to be a great year after all...

Hugo ran to the closest washroom and hid in one of the stalls. The awaited tears fell down his cheeks as he reached for the toilet paper.

Why was this happening for him? Why did he care what Evan said to him? Why did what Evan felt about him matter to him so much, more than he thinks it should?

Was it because he had no one in this school and he was so desperate to have not just one friend, but be a part of a happy group?

Hugo didn't know. He knew he was late for his next subject, and no matter how strict about being on time and school rules with himself, at that moment, he didn't care.

A few minutes of silence occasionally interrupted by sniffing, the sound of the washroom door swinging open made Hugo hold in a big breath.

A few seconds later, a knock on his door made him jump, startled.
