—Hiyori
The first snow of winter finally began that day. But this day was special. It marked the day Yato and I first met a year ago.
It made me smile to know I'd been able to remember him for that long. However, it was also quite strange to know that snow was coming earlier than it had last year.
I remembered it like it was only yesterday. I had shoved him out of the street so a bus wouldn't strike him. My heart was right but thinking about it now, I could have let the bus hit him and he would have been fine. I forced myself to shake the thought though, if things had happened any differently that day, my life wouldn't be as it is today.
That was why today I was to visit Yato so that I could express my appreciation. I had a small bag of 5 yen coins in my hand to offer to him.
As happy as I wanted this day to be, I knew it wouldn't go quite as planned. I had full understanding of how Yato had been lately and I knew it might affect his enthusiasm for the day.
When I arrived at Kofuku's though, Yato seemed surprisingly normal. "Good morning Yato," I said with a cheerful tone and a soft smile.
Yato smiled back at me and gave a happy wave. "Morning Hiyori," he said.
My heart warmed a little when I saw his smile. Maybe his depressive state had passed finally. "Do you know what day it is?" I asked.
Yato tilted his head a little and looked at me. "Uh... Sunday?" He said with a confused tone.
I laughed a bit and shook my head. "No, silly. Today marks the day we met a year ago," I said.
"Oh yeah," he said. "Really? It's been that long?" He asked.
I smiled and nodded. "Yep, so I brought you this," I replied and handed him the bag of coins.
Yato looked down at the bag then opened it. Once he saw all the 5 yen coins inside, he smiled. "Wow, Hiyori. Thank you, this means a lot," he said then looked up at me. "I'm really sorry though, I didn't get you anything," he said.
I shook my head. "It's not needed, I just wanted to be able to show you how much I appreciate the difference you've made in my life after all this time," I answered.
Yato sighed and turned his head away. "Geez, you're gonna make me cry," he replied.
I laughed a little. "I was hoping we could just spend the day together," I said.
Yato turned and looked at me with a grin. "Oh, you want to spend the day all alone with me?" He teased.
My face heated up a bit. "N-Not alone, you weirdo! Everyone here deserves to be a part of this," I said.
Yato gave a slight chuckle. "Fine, fine. Have it your way," he said.
Relief washed over me suddenly, having the feeling that Yato was getting better. But I couldn't be sure. Maybe it was just a mood, something that would soon pass and uncover the hurt again.
Just then, Yukine emerged from around the corner. "Oh, hey Hiyori," he said with a slight smile.
I smiled back at him and waved. "Yukine, come outside with me for a second, I need to show you something," I said then walked outside into the cold.
Soon after, I was joined by the blonde haired regalia. "What's up?" He said.
"What's up with Yato?" I asked. "Is he actually all better and happy?" I elaborated.
"Well," he began. "He's been in a good mood ever since he got back from (Y/n)'s last night. He seemed like he was pritty happy," Yukine said.
"Ah, so it was her then?" I asked, my heart aching a bit.
