V

I woke up with a start.

Sweat trickled from my forehead and down my neck slipping under my shirt.

A breeze went past cooling me off making me suppress a shudder. I was lying down at an empty street near a forest.

The pale moon light flooded the area, the streetlights were flicking and were dim.

I smelled a foul smell -it was my clothes. It was stained with blood -someone's blood -someone whom I killed.

My head was throbbing badly, I somehow gathered my broken phone beside me and fixed it.

My fingers trembled as I held the phone and dialled in a number. I held the device close to my ear in hope that he would pick up quickly.

And he did.

"V! Are you okay? Why aren't you home yet? We were so worried!" Jay's worried voice was heard the other side.

It gave me a sense of relief that someone was worried for me. That I had someone.

"J-Jay, I-I -" I stuttered, trying to talked through my aching head but failed to do so.

"V? What's wrong?" It was suddenly quiet.

I swallowed hard. I can't avoid it.

My closed my eyes tightly as I spilled my next words.

"I-I k-killed someone,"

Memories instantly came in flooding my brain causing me to open my eyes as to not see them.

I held my head rubbing it with the back of hand since my palms were covered in blood.

"You what?!" I heard my oldest, Kayne scream from the other line.

"I did mean to." I muttered looking at my hands, noticing how the wrinkles were dried up with blood. I stood up carefully and dusted myself still holding  onto the phone.

"V, where are you?" I heard Jake ask.

"Ah...at the end of the city, I guess." I replied as I leaned over to the road to see the far end.

"Wait, we're coming." I heard him then some yelling before the call ended.

I looked at the phone it's screen showed my reflection. I had a cut on my down lip and on the bridge of my nose.

This not who I want to be.

I clutched the phone with all my strength and threw it far away.

The low rustling of the leaves to be heard with the dogs barking in a distance, as I heard the cracking of my phone's screen which somehow pleased me.

I remained at the same spot. I looked up at the sky, the stars adoring the darkness. A weak smile pulled up my face only to be wiped off when memories filled my eyes.

"V..." I heard a voice whisper.

I looked at my side where the voice came from and saw them standing there. My friends, my brothers.

Jay was standing in front of them all. His brows formed a bridge as he took in my state.

"Jay!" I gasped as I ran towards him. I held his forearms and squeezed them as I looked at his face. He tensed but then he let me wring his arm.

"I-I didn't mean to kill him. I didn't want to but - but - he said something about my mother and-"

"Shush," Jay quietened him. "We are here now, don't worry."
