When those words left Jayden's mouth, I stopped cutting the carrots and looked at him as if he was crazy.
"I can, right Mummy?"he asks me while sitting at the table.
What is a mother supposed to tell her child? 'Sorry Love, you were here in Satellite and won't be allowed to become one.
"Honey, we've talked about this. You can't say things without thinking them through thoroughly,"I say looking into his stormy grey eyes.
"I have thought it through! I want to be able to protect you! Just like Dad did!"
"Do you really think any 'Satellite scumbag' like us can go to Neo Domino City and become a Sector Security Officer? Jayden, we can't. I know it's your dream but until we are treated equally you're going to end up working in a factory like me."
He looks down as he realizes that what I say is true and that only in his dreams will he ever be able to become a Sector Security Officer. A tear slips from his eyes.
"Jayden, I know how hard it is to accept the truth. We aren't in some dream. We aren't like Jack Atlas or Yusei Fudo who were able to leave this place. We're stuck here in reality. I'm sorry."
I turn back around to continue cutting the carrots for the stew I'm making for dinner. A chair moves back and I here Jayden leave the kitchen. A deep sigh escapes my lips.
"Why must reality be so cruel to our children?"I whisper as my tears fall into a pot filled with water.
