Chapter 5: Getting To Know Normality

Summary of what all happened; after Ozpin told my life story in a single go and told me he was the guy who'd be the head of my school we chatted about the place. I knew nothing, absolutely nothing, about Beacon. I jut got here! I barely explored the areas while I did some short odd jobs here and there hunting some people down for the Lien. Though sometimes it ended up bloody, the police or clients got the target in mostly one piece.

But I digress. We finished our talk and I started to walk out. Hopefully I can- "Wait!" find...a place to stay. Great. Ruby rushes up to me as I continue to walk. She reaches me and matches my pace, obviously wanting to ask questions but not come off as rude or insensitive. "So about what Ozpin said... is it true? Your an orphan? And that the huntsman who took you in was killed?"

I look towards her. I barely met her, and she is someone I barely know so I don't believe I can trust her.

But Kane always said the ones you don't think you can trust normally are the ones to talk to. See if they can be trusted over time. What the hell, here goes nothing.

I let my ears move a bit and scratch them. Staying still made them uncomfortable, I hate that. "Yes, I am originally from Vacuo, and yes I am... was an orphan. Kane, well, I guess you could say he took us in. Rivio and I weren't actually brothers by blood, but on the streets family is much more than blood. Then they were killed, and I took the head of those who were responsible. Qrow thought me how to use my Burial Blade to the best extent I could. Then I got the offer thanks to him from Ozpin and took it."

She lets out an ahhh sound. "So do you have some place to go till tomorrow?" She asks as we continue to walk. "For the time being the allie ways should be fine. I am not one for comfortable living, or beds really. I've always slept on the ground or on a thin sheet." I say. That's about when she grabs my arm and starts to pull me. "Whoa What are you doing! S-slow down!" I say as we speed up very fast. Eventually she here's me and slows down apologizing.

"Sorry, but I can't just leave you out here. So come with me, I'm sure dad can help. We have a guest room to spare." She says. "Uh listen Ruby, if it's not plainly obvious I don't exactly trust people easily. Vacuo has made me realize a bunch of things about our world and easily trusting someone is a big no no. Like, mucho grande bad."

"Then why did you tell me about your life?" She asks with curious eyes. "Because I need someone as an ally I can talk with if need be here. I give people a chance to prove they can be trusted, one at a time. A few people at a time is not what I do."

"Well you can trust us! If Uncle Qrow trained you then I know I can trust you. Give us a chance and you'll see."

Her puppy dog eyes... how is it physically possible they can be this strong... I'm part Wolf for God's sake and I can't even achieve this level of puppy eyes. Gah!

"Fine. I'll give it a shot, but just know my social awkwardness tonight is thanks to you." I say. She smiles and giggles at the statement. "You'll be fine. Trust me it'll be fun!" That's the sign something bad may happen, when they say that. Oh no but don't listen to your gut and experience Ash, they've just KEPT YOU ALIVE THIS LONG! NO NEED TO LISTEN TO THEM NOW!

...I really need to see someone about this, it's really weird and annoying. Oh I'm annoying? Your really one to talk wolfie. Shut up.

    Eventually we reach a Bullhead that'll take us to a place called Patch. I've only ever seen a few maps and read fewer books on places outside of Vacuo so I have no idea where this is and if it's safe or not. "So, how is Vacuo? Is it nice?" Ruby asks breaking the awkward silence. "It's mostly desert where you have to survive. The only rule is that if you can make it in Vacuo, than your welcome. It helps with the prejudice of Faunus for me." I say giving my ears a small twitch.
