Filled with fury, I stared at the two small cuts at the nape of my neck. He must have done it when I was asleep, but how was he able to get into my head? Sighing with frustration, I stripped off my dirty clothes and headed to the shower. I turned the water on, jumping in surprise when the cold water hit me. It slowly turned warm and I sighed again, relaxing when the warm water caressed my sore body.
When I was done, I wrapped a towel around my body – probably Erik’s – since I didn’t know where mine was. I couldn’t help but wonder; what the hell is Alistar thinking? He promised me that I would never have to be anyone’s consort; he promised me that I would never be bitten by a vampire for the rest of my life. He promised that he would…protect me. I felt tears prickle in my eyes, won’t he keep that promise?
Irritated, I rubbed my eyes and mentally slapped myself – come on, cheer up! Taking a deep breath, filling me with energy, I opened the bathroom door and saw Erik sitting on his bed. It looked like he was deep in thought, he didn’t even look up…sighing, he buried his face in his hands. I felt pain, it hurt when I saw him that sad. He looked like a child – not the strong young adult he actually was. I ran my fingers through my wet hair in desperation, what would happen to me if this all was real? What if it was true that Alistar agreed to Daniel proposal, how would I survive being that sadist’s consort?
“Um…Daniel asked me to go to his dorm after school, do you think it’s safe?” I asked hesitantly.
“Are you trying to pull a joke at a time like this?” Erik said coldly. He’s furious, furious as hell.
“No…I was just trying to cheer you up. You look like you’re on a funeral,” I mumbled.
“Yeah, on your funeral,” he said quietly, I almost didn’t hear him.
“Do you think Daniel will try to kill me if I go to his dorm?” I asked.
“I don’t know! How can you even consider going there?” Erik yelled, finally meeting my eyes.
“I don’t consider going there. But I don’t know what he’ll do if I don’t go,” I muttered.
Suddenly Erik stood up and walked over to me, he paused for a brief second and then put both his hands on each side of my face and kissed me briefly. He sighed and put his forehead against mine.
“Don’t go,” he whispered and released my face and walked into the bathroom. Shocked, I stared after him – why is my heart beating so fast?
We barely made it in time for school, when I had entered the classroom with Erik; Daniel had observed us in amusement.
The night went by but I couldn’t help but noticing the other vampires gazes – did they know about the whole consort-thing? Usually the vampires treated me with respect but it was somehow different now, some of them almost bowed their head when meeting me – how long was I asleep? It feels like I’m missing out on something, but what?
At the end of the last class of the night, I felt really tired; I guess it’s because of this emotional roller-coaster. Suddenly a paper was tossed at me, hitting my head – God, that’s some poor aiming skills. Annoyed, I unfold the paper and read the message.
Alistar will be at my dorm after school.
I suggest that you get your ass over there.
There will be answers…
I gasped while reading the note, Alistar will be back! But somehow, this feels a little fishy. Why would Alistar even go to the vampire’s dorm without saying Hi to Erik and me? There was no sign from who the note was from, but I could guess quite easy who it was.
Lost in thought, I didn’t notice Erik standing behind me – probably reading the note.
“Are you going?” Erik murmured, placing a hand on my shoulder.
“I don’t know…it says that there will be answers,” I mumbled.
“You really are an idiot,” Erik stated, slapping my head from behind – lightly, but it still hurt. I scowled at him but he chuckled and ruffled my hair.
“Come on, it is practice and patrolling first, then you can decide on what to do,” Erik said.
Sighing, I walked after him to the gym; the practice today was about self-defense, ironic.
When I had changed to my gym-clothes and was waiting in the gym for the teacher to come, I saw Erik entering the gym. He was shirtless, this made my heart leap – why am I getting nervous for seeing him without a shirt? I’ve seen him without a shirt countless times and that’s never been a problem before – get a grip, Erika.
“Hey there,” Erik said as he reached me.
“Hi,” I said awkwardly, shifting my weight as I felt uncomfortable.
“You’re conscious of me,” Erik whispered in my ear. Startled, I jumped away from him – my reaction made him chuckle.
“N-no…I’m not,” I muttered, blushing as I turned away from him.
“Yes you are,” he murmured softly.
“Why are you not wearing a shirt?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Forgot one this morning,” he answered, wiggling his eyebrows at me. I glared at him but then the teacher entered the gym, interrupting us – thank god for that!
The practice went well, I got to wrestle down Erik a few times and it felt good to do that. I was sitting on one of the benches in the locker-room, eating a granola-bar when a pair of hands grabbed me from behind, one covering my mouth and the other one dragging me to the showers. I groaned mentally – why can’t there be a single calm moment for me?
