Running across campus for Geometry was no joke.
Neither was going to a private high school with dorms and separate buildings.
Most kids hated their parents for sending them to a fancy boarding school like Mark E. Trudman Academy, but it was my dream come true. The acceptance rates were high and the academics deserve a gold star and if you didn't seem interested, most the time kids would leave you alone. Most the time...

It was the middle of winter and goddamn it was cold. Running from my room, doing all I can to avoid my dorm mate, I grabbed my books and head out the door.
In my head I was repeating a phrase. A mantra. A prayer. Please don't run into Gwen. Please for the love of god. My luck. The minute I open the door, I see a smiling face.
Shit.

"Kenya!!!" She jumped on me like she had not seen me for years but in reality it was just last night. Shaking her frantically off my arm, trying to break free from my captors grasp. She gripped even tighter.
" Kenya! You have to, You have to!!"
I had absolutely no clue what she was talking about... until I saw it. A fancy invitation to the most popular party in the school. Written on perfectly pristine card stock, sealed with an official wax brand, I wonder why me? Only kids who are rich and popular get invited to his parties, and I am practically the complete opposite.
I am not head over heels for him like everyone else, and I can't remember the last time we looked in each other's directions. I am not rich, hell, I got a scholarship here! I am not popular as I am not interested in making friend, even with my roommate. I don't dress up or show cleavage. I am just the stereotypical nerd.

So why me?

I realize that Gwen is looking at me, lost in thought as if I was insane. My cheeks flare up with embarrassment as I finally break the tension.
"It's for me?" I asked, even though I obviously already know. I just need something, anything to say to me being awkward.

"Yes!!! And you have to take me as your plus one!" She looked at me with hopeful eyes and yet I had to shut it down NOW!

" I am not even sure I am going Gwen."

I saw her heart shatter. Her eyes portray it all. Sorry....

"But you HAVE to!!! No one in the middle class gets invites like this!" She gestured to the invite. " I know you don't party. Just please, please go with me!!!"

Racking my brain for an excuse and yet none seem appropriate. Damn. Taking the invite I read the RSVP and all it say is dorm 2h.

Welp. Guess I know what I am doing tonight.
