"And now ladies and gentlemen, the most anticipated women of the evening."

The announcers voice echoes through the larger doors leading to the ballroom. Each of us stand behind the other in a single file line as we await for our names to be called.

The ballroom beyond the doors erupts into boisterous cheer, seeming to literally roar as the walls vibrate slightly.

"I present to you, Lady Penelope Hautington."

We are instructed to step aside as the doors open and Penelope waltzes through gracefully.

I can't see her face, but I'm almost positive she's smiling her best 'marry me before I'm disowned' smile. She glides towards the railing of the stairs, taking each step carefully as she descends.

A chill runs down my spine.

Soon enough that will be me.

The man's voice fades and I lose myself in my thoughts.

Maybe I haven't thought this through throughly enough? Perhaps too much is expected from me. What if I can't meet these expectations? Am I just marry any man my family forces upon me?

Do I just sit docile as I'm forced into a kitchen?

Or a maternity ward?

Or better yet, a basement because I'm too strong of a woman?

I've heard too many stories. Too many sad endings, and I refuse to be another casualty.

"Hello?"

I gasp.

"My apologies, I didn't mean to scare you."

My eyes are wide as I try to tame my rapid breathing and the girl smiles, eagerly offering me her palm.

"I'm Amber, sorry for the scare. I realized we're the last two in line, and I don't really know anybody here."

Finally calming, I warily place my hand in hers giving it a shake.

"Adele."

"You have a beautiful name, and such a beautiful cloak!"

It takes a great mind to recognize a good cloak.
