Chapter Eleven
"Quite an impression.."The ever so regal dining room hums with chatter as ladies and gentlemen run about. Eagerly I skim the crowd for Claire, she's been missing all day.
"Excuse me mademoiselle, do you need assistance finding your seat?"
Glancing over my shoulder I spot a thin Butler. The ends of his mustache curl, an odd contrast to his stoic face. Mindlessly I wave him off and continue my search.
"No thank you, I'm waiting for someone."
"I beg your pardon Miss," he persists. "But you must find your seat. The royal family is soon to enter."
I sigh.
Maybe she's running behind. I'll try and save her a seat to be safe.
"Your last name?" He asks, a twinge of impatience evident in his voice.
"Winters."
In his hands rests a lengthy scroll, and he locates my name quickly.
"Right this way, Miss Winters."
He leads me towards the center of a very long dinner table. Women of all sorts both youthful and mature are seated across the tables length.
At both ends rests large commanding thrones. Alongside them sit smaller, more elegant chairs suitable for none other than the queen and princess.
Gazing across the table I find Claire. She's standing towards the head of the table where the prince is due to be seated.
What can I say? The girl is here to win.
Standing across from her is none other than Blaire, who might I add, is exposing far more than just tasteful cleavage.
I roll my eyes.
Let's move along and get this evening over with.
The blaring of royal horns steals everyone's attention, including my own, and the baritone voice of a Kings guard signifies the start to a very long night.
The entire room bows as they enter. No one must stand higher than the king.
That proves how fragile he must be.
"You may be seated." The king orders.
Everyone takes their seats, I of course more reluctantly than others.
