Nystagmus.

Review;

I open my eyes, and I'm laying in a hospital bed. I turn my head to the right and there's Eddie, with his head down on my stomach.

"Eddie..." I mumble.

"Aleks, you're awake."

"What happened?"

"Your eyes rolled back in your sleep and your heart stopped Aleks.. I was scared shitless."

"Oh.."

"They said you have some medical issues."

"I didn't know that,"

"I don't think anyone knew that."

"I know,"

"They want to do some testings when you wake up."

"Oh,"

"Which is now," Eddie said as he reached across me to press a red button beside me.

A moment later a nurse walks into the room with a clipboard.

"Hello Aleksandr,"

"Hello,"

"We need you to come down to the doctors main examining room,"

"Okay,"

After an hour in back in my room and the doctor finally comes with the results.

"You have Nystagmus"

"Nystagmus?"

"Fast, uncontrollable movements of the eyes."

"Oh,"

"Would you like more info?"

"Yes,"

"Okay, so. The involuntary eye movements of nystagmus are caused by abnormal function in the areas of the brain that control eye movements. The part of the inner ear that senses movement and position (the labyrinth) helps control eye movements."

"And is there a development? Or was it seen at birth?" Eddie asks.

"Both actually, but in his case it was developed later in life because of a disease or injury."

"So could they be from concussions?"

"Yes, hard hits to the head will do that."

"So that's how I got mine than."

"Yes,"

"Will I need to come back regularly?"

"Yes,"

"What medication can I get for this,"

"Sometimes we prescribe Phenytoin or Dilantin as it's called elsewhere."

"Okay"

"Well Aleks your ready to be discharged,"

"Okay,"

"Meet me downstairs,"

"Sure thing,"

I watch the doctor as he leaves the room. I glance over at Eddie, "can you get my clothes?"

"Yes"

"Thanks"

I get up from the bed on the hideous gown and grab my clothes from Eddie. I walk over to the bathroom and shut the door behind me. I take off the gown and pull on my clothes, I than shut off the light and walk out of the bathroom.

"Let's go shall we."

"We shall." Eddie says kissing my cheek.
