In 1991, Penelope lived in Portland, Oregon when a fire took down her home. She made herself look like she was injured badly and walked to the nearest house, which was the Gemini coven's house and put on the best show of her life. She cried hard, pretending that her "family" died and Mr. Parker took her in and she lived with them for 3 years.

She became friends with all of Mr. Parker's children. Even the youngest ones, Lucas and Olivia. Except for one, Josette's twin brother, Kai. He was always isolated in his room. Penelope hardly ever seen him leave his room. But one day, everyone, except Penelope and Kai, had left for some important witch business. Kai had come out of his room for something to eat and Penelope was sitting at the bar in the middle of the kitchen. Kai had turned around and dropped the food. Penelope had jumped then vamp sped to pick up the food for Kai. He thanked her quietly then he started cooking the food. He and Penelope had talked for what seemed like hours.

When the Gemini coven came home, Kai quickly retreated to his room, leaving her to clean up. She quickly cleaned up then vamp sped to her room. She noticed something on her bed and saw drawings, of her, from Kai. She hid them quickly because she heard Olivia yell her name. Penelope left her room, shutting the door and walks downstairs and picks up Olivia.

For the next three years, whenever the coven would leave, her and Kai would talk and he'd surprise you with more and more drawings. They slowly fell in love with each other but never admitted it.

But May 10th, 1994 was the worst day for Penelope, Kai and the coven. Kai went on a murderous rampage when the parents had left for witch business. Kai had killed 4 of his siblings, stabbed Josette in the stomach with a hunting knife. Penelope found her and healed her. That's when Penelope revealed her secret to Jo, being a vampire. Jo didn't care. She went to find Lucas and Olivia but she hid them with a cloaking spell.

Kai went crazy when he couldn't find Luke or Liv. Penelope hid them when they ran out of the room then she tried to stop Kai which didn't end well for her or for Kai. When Penelope tried to stop Kai, he siphoned some of her vampirism and used it to snap her neck. But before he did, he said he was sorry and that he loved her.

When she woke from her temporary death, Penelope was in the middle of the woods. She tried searching for Kai and the coven but she never could. She thought the coven had killed Kai so she mourned him.
