RIIIIING RIIIIINGG RRRRIIIIIINGGG
I turned my alarm clock off and found myself sprawled on the floor with my blanket and pillows on top of me.
One thing that people should know about me is that I’m a dangerous sleeper. Ten years ago, Ryan and I shared a bed because our parents were redecorating my room so we had to share for a while. When I woke up, I found Ryan crying. I asked him why. He said, ‘I don’t wanna ever ever share a bed with you again! You were punching and kicking me everywhere and it hurts.’ He told Mom and Dad, so starting that day; we never shared a bed ever again. Even if our lives depended on it.
My alarm clock read: 6:00. I still have time for my one-hour morning jog! YES!
I slipped on my jogging pants, sweatshirt, grabbed my iPod, and then tied my hair into a messy pony-tail.
I quietly went down the stairs then off I go, the cool morning breeze greeted me the moment I stepped outside the door! I am always in a good mood every time I start my day jogging, it helps me think and be peaceful while I listen to my playlist.
I closed my eyes and smelled the fresh air. I passed by a lot of big houses and thought, what would ever happen if a thief came in. The whole neighbourhood would probably be awakened by its alarm-system.
While I was doing my rounds and passing more mansions, I saw a tall figure emerging from one of the mansions.
Probably another teenage jogger like me, I thought. And very rich too.
I admired the house as I jogged closer. My house is also big, but not this big.
The figure became clearer as I went nearer.
Mark
Shoot. Not again! I look so haggard and sweaty. Why has fate been so cruel to me the moment I met Mark?
He started jogging towards me, probably realizing who I was.
“Hey! Good morning!” He called out.
I replied, “Good morning to you too! I didn’t know you also jog.”
“I don’t usually jog regularly, I just feel energized today.” He answered.
Mark was wearing a gray hoodie and jogging pants. He looks so good with his dishevelled black hair and how his green eyes were brighter than usual.
I mentally slapped myself. Get a hold of yourself, remember what happened two years ago? I thought.
He probably noticed how I was jogging stationary, so he said, “I bet you want to jog now, mind if I join you?”
I felt my bangs stick to my forehead, because of the sweat, as I nodded. “Sure! Let’s get going then.”
We ran together for thirty minutes before we stopped to take a rest. We took turns with the water-fountain, and then sat down on the nearest bench.
I wheezed, “I’m so tired right now.”
I have asthma, but that didn’t stop me from playing sports. Sports helped me improve my asthma, so I rarely get asthma attacks this past few years. But I always have my inhaler just in case the unexpected happens.
I looked at Mark, I was surprised to see him smiling and looking not tired at all.
I huffed, “Hey, why aren’t you tired? That’s unfair.”
He looked at me and smiled, “I play basketball all the time. We have an indoor basketball court where my bro and I play together. That’s why my stamina’s good.”
“Oh.”
Same thing with me and Ryan, we swim so that we can bond, while Mark and his brother plays ball so that they can bond.
“So, how many siblings do you have?” I asked, curious.
“Two. All guys. I’m the second child, but my older brother is in college so sometimes it’s just me and my little brother.”
I saw a hint of sadness in his eyes when he mentioned his little brother. I wanted to ask why, but I thought against it.
I was deep in thought when Mark spoke, “How about you? How many siblings do you have?”
I answered, “Only one, you met him yesterday. He’s my little baby brother, he can be so annoying sometimes.” I laughed.
“Oh yeah, I have met him. He looks just like you.”
“Yeah, people think so too. Except the eyes, he has blue eyes while I’m stuck with the brown eyes.” I rolled my eyes.
I saw Mark staring at my eyes ; I blushed.
Arching my eyebrows, I said, “What?”
He shook his head, “Nothing. You have pretty eyes, just so you know.” He fidgeted with his iPod after he said that.
I smiled, “Thank you. You have nice eyes too.”
“Thanks.”
If this was a reality TV show, people would be saying, ‘What the hell?! All you could talk about are each other’s eyes?!’
Mark cleared his throat and looked at his watch, “I guess we better go back now, it’s already 7:30.”
I nodded, “Yeah, we should go. See you later.”
As I started turning my back on him, I felt a hand pulling my arm. I turned around and saw that it was Mark’s.
“Stacy, wait.” He said.
“Yeah?”
“Want me to pick you up at 8:15?”
“Uh, yeah, sure! But I thought you didn’t have a car?”
“I can borrow my dad’s car.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure about that.”
“Thanks Mark.”
“You’re welcome.”
Mark awkwardly released his grip on my arm, after realizing he was still holding it.
I snickered, “We better stop being awkward around each other you know that?”
He placed his hand at the back of his neck, blushing, “Yeah, I think we should stop.”
We both laughed after that.
We waved each other goodbye, and then went on our separate ways.
