Chapter one

I begin to cut the piping-hot, freshly made lasagna into squares and carefully ease a thick layer into a glass container. "Hm...I wonder if he'd like this lasagna...," I say as I close the lid. Storing the rest of the lasagna for later, I drape on my thick fur coat and ankle boots and walk out into the frosty winter air, which bites at my cheeks and freezes my hands.

Hopefully, it doesn't freeze the lasagna.

I then proceed to quickly make my way to my car. Once I slide into the cold leather seat, I immediately turn on the heat and after a bit of thought, blast some Christmas music because why not? I'm feeling the Christmas spirit this year. The drive from my house to Mark's company wasn't that far, so I was there in no time. Practically running from my car to the door, I quickly grabbed hold of the large, sleek silver handles. I pulled them open and was greeted with a gust of warm air and a cheery "Welcome!" One of the staff members came to help me out, and kindly guided me to the sleek glass doors of a bright, newly-waxed-floor practice room.

You're probably wondering why there's a practice room, and not an office. Well, lets just say that Mark may or may not be an uprising trainee in one of the biggest entertainment companies, and I may or may not be his girlfriend. I walked in to see him laying spread-eagled on the ground, sweating heavily, as he got up to take a break. Since he was on his phone, he was - for some reason - too busy to notice me and my new - extremely loud - ankle boots clacking on the floor as I walked into the room, so I went up to hug him from behind.

"HOLY FREAKING CRAP ELLA!!" he yelled as he swiped his phone away, concealing it behind his back while taking slow steps away from me.

"Mark, I'm sorry...." I say playfully. "I brought you some of my homemade lasagna though." I said while smiling. "You know. The one you love." He always loves my lasagna.

He answers my smile with an annoyed face. "Just go home. I need to practice." He shoos me away, but his attention stays glued on his phone. My smile immediately drops. Did he really just tell me to go home? Just shooed me away like that? I even had his favorite lasagna. This is the first time he's done anything like this. What was going on?

"Hey, Mark, is there something wrong?" I place the lasagna delicately on the floor and gently place my hand on his shoulder. He turns back around and snaps at me, "Ella, I told you to go home!" He shrugs off my hand and shoves me away. I stumble backwards a bit, nearly tripping from the force. Anger slowly arises in me. "Is it really so wrong to ask, Mark?" I bark back at him. No response. His eyes are still glued to his phone, and he lets out a small chuckle.

Excuse me? What was that...?

I'm not taking this bullshit. I quickly cross the distance between us and grab hold of his phone. I can only sneak a brief look of it - texts from some girl named Sarah before he roughly shoves me away and snatches his phone. This time, the force is enough to make me stumble and fall backwards, leaving me helplessly and angrily sprawled on the ground. Instead of helping me up, he only turns to me with pure fury in his eyes. "ELLA, I already TOLD YOU TO leave! Why couldn't you just GO, instead of hanging here? IS IT THAT HARD TO LEAVE?? Not only that, but you have the NERVE to take my phone? My PERSONAL THINGS??? Is this what you've become now? HUH? IS IT?" He stares at me angrily for a few seconds before giving out an exasperated sigh. "Ella, you know what-"

"Who was that?"

I can feel my voice shaking. I clear my throat and put my game face on. I can't let him see me cry. Not anymore, at least. I clear my throat again, and this time my voice comes out a little bit stronger, but I can feel a lump in my throat and angry tears forming in my eyes. However, the tears can come later. But right now, I need answers.

"I asked you a question, who was that?" I stand up and brush off my coat. Standing there with fists clenched and eyes burning, I push further.

"Have you been cheating on me?"

This sentence. Saying it makes me realize. Please say no. Fight back. Tell me I'm wrong. Say she's just some relative. Hell, say she's your grandma after some doses of botox and a face lift - but please, don't say -

"No. Ella, I'm not cheating on you. You know I love you a lot...and don't worry..." he looks around the room desperately. "...she's my cousin. So just go home and rest. I should be done in an hour, okay?" He forces on a small smile.

I still don't believe him, but what more could I do? I feel a clinking at my heels and there lays the untouched lasagna. I reach down to pick it up, and hold onto it like a lifeline. I glance at Mark once more before I walk out, but I try to leave this day's events in the room.

Sometimes, it's better to forget.
