Phil's P.O.V

I stand there, in front of my house. I had just made the ride here, and thoughts were already filling my head. "What if mum is here?" was the main thing. I breathe slowly and walk inside.

"...dad?" I yell.
"Hello?" he yells back.
"It's Phil!" I say. He walks into the room.
"Oh, Phil! Thanks for coming," my dad says.
"No problem," I say back.
"Okay, let's not stall," my dad says and sits down.

I nervously do the same.

"Listen, kiddo, I don't mind what sexuality you are, same with your boyfriend," my dad says.

I sigh. I guess he isn't gonna stop that.

"I liked him when you introduced him as a friend, so what could change now?" my dad says.
"Thanks, dad, really," I say, getting less nervous.
"Now, about your mum," my dad starts.

I realized that I was shaking. Why was I so nervous? I knew he would say that she didn't accept me, but, what else? I tap my foot.

"She said that she does not accept you," he says.

Nailed it. Right on the target. Who would've guessed?

"She doesn't think of you as her son anymore. She never wants to see you in this house again," my dad says glumly.
"What?" I muster out.
"Your mum...doesn't want to see you again," My dad says, tearing up. I start to cry. Despite not seeing her much, she was my mum! And she never wanted to see her own son again, because I'd rather kiss boys than girls?! My sadness turns into anger. "Phil, I'm not kicking you out of this house," my dad suddenly says. "Wha...what?" I mutter. "I can't make my own son leave. She barely sees you anyway. Just on her days off...maybe stay with your boyfriend," my dad says. I get up and hug him. "Thank you, so much. But, wait. You're putting everything at risk... for me?" I ask. "Phil, you're my son," he says. I nod.

I go up to my room and sit down on my bed. I was confused by my emotions yet again. I decide not to think about it much, or I would end up crying. So instead, I make a group chat between Dan, Hope, Vicky and Me. I start the conversation.

Phil: Hey guys, I have news.

I think that was a good thing to start with...I don't really know. Oddly, Hope is the first one to answer.

H: Yeah?
H: Vick is reading over my shoulder.
V: Not anymore!
D: why is my phone blowing up
P: You're in a group chat.
D: thats a first.

I remember Dan's life before all of this. No friends and family that loved him. I started having flashbacks. When we met, Skype, when I fell for him...some good memories and some bad. But not everything could be good, or life would be boring.

P: So guys... basically, my mum hates my guts and never wants to see me again.
H: Wow.
V: You're mums a jerk.
P: My dad won't kick me out of the house though. So on her days off, guess who's stuck with me!
H: Haha!
V: Lol
D: wait what
H: You're stuck with Phil.
D: i don't mind ;)
P: Dan, there are other people in this.
D: shoot
V: xD
H: Haha, you guys are cute.
P: Hey!
D: ;)
P: Dan, seriously, I'm gonna...
D: what ;)
V: This is entertaining.
H: Vick!
V: What?

I sigh and put my phone down. I didn't know a lot that was going to happen. But I did know two things for sure. Dan was getting happier, and I had friends to help us finish the race.

Before I left for school the next day, my dad asked me something. "Hey Phil, can you bring your boyfriend here today? I want to talk to him about all of this in person," my dad says. "Sure!" I say and rush out the door. I sit next to Harry since Dan didn't take this bus anymore. "Long time no see!" Harry says. "Yeah!" I say back. "How was your vacation?" Harry asks. "...eventful," I say. We laugh and talk till we get to the school.

The school day was bland as usual. Then I meet up with Dan near the bus. "Dan! Wait up!" I yell and wave. He turns around. His face lights up. He waves. I catch up with him. "Hey Dan, can you come home with me today? My dad wants to talk to you," I say. "Yeah sure, I don't have anything better to do," he says. We go on the bus to my house.

We walk inside. "Hi dad, Dan's here," I say while walking in. "Hi Phil, hi Phil's boyfriend," my dad says. "Okay, now he's just trying to mess with me," Dan mutters. I laugh. We all sit down. "Alright, Dan. I'm assuming Phil told you what I told him?" my dad says., "Yep," Dan says. "Okay, so about you," my dad starts. Dan nervously taps his foot. I quietly rub his back. That seems to calm him down. "Phil's mum doesn't like you either. She doesn't want to see you ever again, and if she does...I don't know what she'll do," my dad says. "Alright...so don't come here often?" Dan says. "Basically," my dad answers. "Okay..." Dan says. "That's pretty much it," my dad says. "Do you wanna go to my room real quick, I need to get something," I ask. "Sure," Dan says.

We sit on my bed. "Your room is so colorful," Dan says, looking around. "It suits you well," Dan says. I turn red. "Dan..." I start. He puts his arm around me. I kiss his cheek. "Do you have any homework?" I awkwardly ask. Dan laughs and smiles. "Possibly..." he says and grabs my arm. He pulls me close to him. "I'm not doing it right now, though," Dan says. Then, I head my door slam open.

I see clearly my angry mum walk in. "Why the hell are these gays in my house?" my mum shouts. I look at Dan. If this was a couple of months ago, Dan would be cowering. But Dan has changed since then. He's changed a lot. He's stronger now. Now, he was sitting up straight, staring my mum in the eyes. "And just what are you looking at?" my mum growls at Dan. I squeeze his hand. Dan stays silent. "Answer me!" she yells. "I--" My dad starts. "I want these gross gays out!" she shouts. "Fine then..." Dan says and grabs my hand. "What are you doing?!" my mum and dad both ask. "I have no idea..." I say as we run down the stairs. We get outside, on my front lawn.

Dan pulls me close to him and kisses me. "We're not inside right?" Dan says with a smile. "You've changed Dan Howell," I say. "What's that supposed to mean?" Dan asks. "It means your getting happier and stronger," I say with a smile, laying on the grass with him. "It's because of you Phil," he says and pulls me into a kiss. I hear my mum shouting. "Why are you kissing on my lawn! Get off!" she screams. Dan pulls away. He suddenly holds my hand and holds his middle finger up at my mum. Dan has changed, from a quiet and broke boy to a brave and strong...yet broken boy. I now not only hear my mum shouting but my Dad laughing.
