Phil's P.O.V
"Please! I did all my homework, and I'm doing well in school!" I cry out. "Okay, okay, fine. But you're putting the money on it," says my dad. I jump up in happiness. I knew my father wouldn't be able to drive almost 40 minutes every day, so I begged him to let me get an Oyster card and ride the underground train by myself. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I say happily. "I've never seen you want something so badly. Must be a good friend," says my dad. "Oh..yeah. Well, I didn't want to just talk over Skype every day because sometimes that isn't enough and..." "Alright, alright, calm down, Phil," says my dad. "Sorry! Thank you!" I say. He hands me £20 for the card. "That's just for the card itself, you put the money on it," says my dad. "Okay," I say. "Now don't lose it, or you'll pay for another one," he says, staring at me. "Right, I'll try," I say. My dad knows that I lose all most everything. "If you lose it, I'm not paying for another one," says my dad. "Okay! I'll be going now!" I say. "Have fun," says my dad as he writes something down.
I walk to the store that was about ten minutes from my house. I wonder if I should text Dan. No, I think I'll keep it a surprise. His reaction will be better that way. That sounds weird, but oh well. I make it to the store and go to a section that I don't normally go to. It was walls upon walls of different cards. There were hundreds and hundreds to chose from. "At this rate, I'll be here all day," I say to myself with a small laugh. I look for a while, then one catches my eye. It was a card that had teddy bears of all different colors all over it. "Rainbow teddies, nice," I say to myself. I grab the card and walk to the counter. I pay for the card. "Alright kid, go to the red machine in the subway and scan your card. Then just put the money in the machine," says the man. "Thank you, sir," I say. "No problem, kid," he says back. I walk to the subway. I look around for the machine. I see it, with no people around it, perfect. I go to the machine and scan my card. The machine makes a weird noise and says "New customer, type your name!" I jump at the sound letting out a small shriek, causing some people around to snicker. I turn red and notice a girl staring at me. We make eye contact and she hurries away. I can't help but feel like I've seen her before...but whatever. I type in "Phil" and wait for it to process. Let's see, the ride is 50 pence, but it will take like 45 minutes to get there and 45 minutes back...I'll put on £25. I can always put more on. I put the money on. "Thank you for using your new Oyster card!" Says the machine. I walk away and look at my watch. 4:00 pm. I wonder if Dan is worried that I'm not coming. I hope not. The next train is in five minutes! I wait for 5 minutes until the train gets here. I stand and go on the 45 minutes ride. I notice that the person next to me looks worried and is staring at their watch. I look around and think about random things and wonder what the man was worried about until we got there. "Here we are, Amber Town!" I hear someone yell. I hop off the train and walk to the center.
I wonder when they have dinner, I hope I'm not too late. I walk in to see a lady. "Hello, I'm visiting Dan Howell," I say. "Oh alright, Dan...okay!" She says. She hands me a visitor pass. "I'll call him here," she says. I look around the room, which was almost completely empty apart from a couple of people and two children. "Dan Howell To The Main Office Please!" she says on the intercom. "Wow, reminds me of school," I think to myself. A couple of minutes later I see a rather nervous looking Dan walks into the room. Then he looks up and sees me. "Phil?" He says. I wave. He runs up to me and hugs me straight away. "I'm so happy your here," he says, hugging me tightly. "Oh heh...thanks!" I say. "You won't believe what it took to get here," I say. "Your dad isn't here?" he asks, with his arms still wrapped around me. "Nope," I say. He pulls away. "Alright. Well, Phil, I'm not the only one who wants to see you," Dan says with a smile. Dan looks...different. But in a good way. He's still broken...but he's happy, happier here than he was at his 'home'. He didn't come to school today, and I don't think he will for the rest of this week, but he'll definitely be in school next week. He still needs to heal and finish up his make up work. Not just that, he needs to get used to the center. "Come on," Dan says, excitedly. Then he grabs my hand and starts walking.
He leads me to a room full of toys and children. Then he lets go of my hand as one child comes up to him. "Hi, Dan! Look what I made!" she says happily. "What is it, Danielle?" She holds up a drawing of a small dinosaur says "Rawr!" "Aw..." says Dan blushing. "It's your Dino! The Dino you got from your friend you've been talking about! Dan, I really want to meet him, he seems like the nicest person in the world, based on what you said," she says excitedly. Dan was extremely red and I could feel the warmness coming off him. "Aw...well, you do get to meet him, he's right here...this is Phil!" he says and tries to hide his face. I smile and wave at her. "Hi! My name is Danielle, your name is Phil, right?" she says "Yep, that's me," I say kindly, "Cool! You're so cool!" she says. "...what?" I ask confused. What does that mean? She just met me and I'm 'cool' and the nicest person in the world? "Well, yeah! You got Dan a dinosaur and you're always cheerful and brighten everyone's day," she says. I blush. "Uh...thank you," I say awkwardly. "Well, that's what Dan says anyway, And I don't think Dan lies," she says happily. "I'm gonna draw us all together, like a family phone, but a bunch of friends instead," she says and skips off.
Dan was hiding in the corner, holding his face. It was as if he was trying to disappear. I can't believe Dan said all of those things. Does he really think of me like that? That's...that's really sweet. And kind. I walk over to him and hear him muttering to himself. "Ugh, Phil totally thinks I'm a clingy weirdo now," "I'm such an idiot," "Why am I like this?" "Am I this desperate for friendship?" I hear him mutter all of these things. "Dan..." I begin to say as I rub his back. He turns and looks at me, his face completely red. "Let's talk about this in my room," he mutters. He awkwardly grabs my wrist as we walk.
I go into his room to see his suitcase open was half open and clothes all over the floor. "Sorry, the rooms a mess," he says "Listen, Phil, I'm sorry-" Dan begins to say. "Are you kidding me?" I interrupt. Tears begin to come to his eyes. "I'm really sorry, please forgive me I-" he starts again. "Did you really think I would be mad?" I ask. "What?" I hear him say weakly as he looks up. I sit down on the bed next to him. I put my arm around him. "That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me!" I exclaim as I pull him into a tight hug. I slowly rub his back. "Really?" he says with his voice shaking. "Oh, Dan..." I say. "Why do you do this to yourself?" I ask. "What do you mean?" he asks in his shaky voice. "Why do you think your such a bad person?" I ask him. "I don't...I don't know..." he stutters. "You're so kind Dan...please don't think otherwise," I say. "Thank you," he mutters. We pull away from each other. "You really think I'm the nicest person in the world?" I ask. He blushes. "Um.." he stutters. I laugh. "You're such a nerd," I say and hug him again.
"Well, dinner is at 6:00 and it's 5:45," says Dan glumly. "Don't worry, I'll see you tomorrow," I say. "Let me do something before you go," he says. "Okay..." I say. He grabs my hand and gets Danielle. "What is it, Dan? It's almost dinner time!" she says. "I want to play you guys something," Dan says. "Oh, yay! Phil, Dan is so good at the piano! He helped me sleep last night," she says. He leads me to a room that contained a huge piano. I sit on Dan's right while Danielle sits on his left. Then he begins to play an adorable song as Danielle stares at his constantly moving fingers.
