THREE DAYS PRIOR

It was Friday, Nancy had been telling me about her parents leaving for two days to get some "alone time." And of course, Nancy thought it was a great idea to have a few people over to her house. I don't mind going, I had planned on spending time with my boyfriend. At the time.

Steve.

"I'm sorry Nancy, but I don't see why you don't just give Jonathan a chance, you're single and every person in this school can see how he feels about you. What's stopping you?" I glanced over at her once sliding the few books I was caring under one of my arms into my locker, a few pieces of paper crumpling due to me trying to shove the large books into the way too small locker. Probably didn't help that I cant keep my locker clean. But who does anyways?

Nancy turned to face me with a small smile plastered against her lips. "You just wouldn't understand, Lil. It's complicated."

I couldn't help but snort and push the few whips of my blonde hair away from my eyes, choosing not to argue about this matter with the clueless girl again. Jonathan is a very close friend to me. He has asked me many times to talk to Nancy and try and see if maybe her best friend can talk her into giving the sweet boy a chance. Once we were both done at our lockers, we headed out to the very busy parking lot. A few cars were honking to get the people who were standing in small groups in the middle of the exit.

I grabbed the car keys to my fairly shitty car from my bag before unlocking the door. Before I could flop down into the car two long arms slid around my waist then continued to lift me up and spin me around in quick circles.

"Steve! Quit you're making me dizzy!" I squirmed from his grip and turned to face him, his usual neatly placed hair was sticking out in different directions and he smelled terrible. But he didn't seem to notice me pinching the end of my nose to keep from the sour smell reaching my senses.

He looked at me with a sly grin before lifting one of his arms up, sniffling the very sweaty mark on his gym shirt over his armpit. "I don't smell that bad, do I?"

Steve is a good boyfriend, for the most part. We haven't been together for a long time, only a few months. But something I have noticed about him is whenever Nancy comes around he seems to completely ignore that I'm standing right next to him. Or he will take the time to walk her to class. But when I ask him why he cant walk his girlfriend to class he laughs it off and makes me feel crazy.

Maybe I'm just overthinking?

"yes, you smell that bad. How can someone produce that much sweat in an hour?" I turned to open my car door to toss my bag into the seat, Steve pressed a quick kiss to my cheek before I could hear the sound of Nancy's voice growing closer to us.

She smiled at me happily. But a little happier once she seen Steve was around.

"Hey guys, you both will make it to my house tonight right? I promise it wont be a lot of people. Only like maybe five tops." She started to rock back and forth on her feet as her eyes never left Steve's.

I'm starting to get pissed off.

"yeah, I don't know. Maybe. I thought me and Steve might just stay in and watch a movie." He slid his arm around my shoulders lazily while they both turned their attention from each other to me. He quickly shook his head soon after, speaking up.

"What? No way! Come on it will be a lot of fun. We can watch a movie some other time. We are young and need to go to as many parties as we can."

"Yeah, that will make you real successful, Steve."
