A strong snore of my own woke me from my sleep, I panicked for a second before realizing I was back in my bedroom in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The smell of baked cinnamon rolls and turkey bacon invaded my nose as I inhaled deeply, feeling the warmth of the soft carpet underneath my feet as I stood.

Mama was up early making breakfast again.

I stretched and yawned all the way to the bathroom, I reached for the doorknob but it wouldn't budge. My eyes rolled all the way to the back of my head as I shouted at the top of my lungs "MOMMMMM MARIYO IS HOGGING THE BATHROOM AGAIN!"

"Mariyo let your sister use the bathroom, you know you're supposed to be out of there by 7:45 am." Mama defends me as always. I know I'm her favorite.

"But ma! I JUST got in here!" He exclaimed. "Just five more minutes snitch." He snarled from behind the bathroom door.

"3 or I'll tell mama you called me a bitch!" I smirked, I always win.

"Ugh!" He bangs on the door.

"2 minutes now, times a ticking." I giggle as I trot down the stairs and into the kitchen.

"Mmm it smells lovely in here ma." I compliment my mamas cooking as I wrap my arms around her.

"Thanks baby, gone head and have a seat."

I do as I'm told and have a seat at the table, mama places my special purple plate in front of me, it's filled with food.

"Thank you mama." I voice my gratitude before stuffing my mouth with a cinnamon roll.

"Aht aht, you know better!" Mama exclaimed, smacking my hand away from my mouth.

I forgot to pray over my food..

"Dear Heavenly Father, I just want to thank you for blessin my mamas hands to prepare this meal for us on today, Amen!"

"Amen." Mamas boyfriend Damien mocks, walking into the kitchen smelling like ten packs of cigarettes already.

I roll my eyes and grab my plate off the table.

"Melanie where are you going?" Mama scolds, flipping a pancake in the skillet.

"To finish eating in my room, I need to shower now.." I said sweetly as I backed out of the kitchen and jogged up the stairs.

Ugh, I can't stand that nigga.

As I walked up the stairs Mariyo was finally exiting the bathroom, still looking like yesterday but that ain't my problem.

I set my food down on my desk and grab my phone, sending Keira a quick text;

Keira: I'll be around in about thirty minutes.

In about 0 seconds she responds back with a "k b safe." I grab my towel and head into the bathroom to shower.

About $50 more on the water bill and 20 minutes later, I'm out of the shower and in my room getting dressed for school.

Once I'm finished getting dressed I throw my phone in my back pocket, grab my backpack and my breakfast and head down the stairs. As I walk through the kitchen I grab a ziplock bag and throw my breakfast in there before kissing my mama on her cheek. "Have a great day mama." I say, rolling my eyes at Damien.
