"Where are we?"
"I don't know."
Stephanie squeezed her husband's hand. "You're in the doctor's office. I'm here with you and you're going to be okay."
"Oh, heh." Matthew laughed a bit. He smiled like he knew what was going on. "I guess that's why I'm so nervous." Matthew smiled down at her, but his eyes shown with fear.
She patted her his shoulder. "It's perfectly alright. It's just another MRI scan. It won't hurt too much. It's not a surgery."
Matthew nodded and he seemed to settle down. "I love you," he confided.
A man approached the couple. "Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick?" He was wearing a white lab coat and seemed unsure about their identity.
Matthew took a second to register the words. "Yes," he agreed, looking about the man. "That's, uh, us."
"My name is Dr. Johnson," he greeted. "I'll be overseeing the scan today." He held his hand for a handshake.
"It's nice to meet you," Matt smiled, shaking his hand. The theorist paused and frowned. After his wife had shook the man's hand he leaned down to her. "What scan is he talking about?" he whispered into his wife's ear.
"They're going scan your brain," she leaned up and whispered back.
"Why?"
"You have a bad memory."
"Oh," Matthew seemed a bit taken back, but continued to roll with it.
"I'll lead the way," he greeted.

Stephanie had her arm linked through her husband's. Finally, the elevator opened up. "Okay," Johnson explained, walking into the hall. "You're going to be scanned in a few minutes. And we just need to make sure that it's okay to prick your arm and put a I.V. into it."
MatPat glanced down at his wife. "Sounds good to me."
"Okay," the doctor agreed, helping into the room as the nurses checked him over. "Now, your wife and I will be in the other room talking to you remotely, do you understand?"
"I do," he agreed.
"Okay," Johnson agreed, extending his hand. "I'll see you in an hour."
"Thank you misterrrr..." Matthew grasped for he man's name while shaking the hand
"Doctor Johnson," he corrected.
"Thank you," Matt repeated, dropping his hand.
Stephanie gave him a kiss before going into the next door room. After a minute Matt was ready, then the machine started up, until finally Dr. Johnson took the microphone. "Okay, Matthew, can you hear me?"
"I sure can," Matthew confirmed. "Who are you?"
"My name is Dr. Johnson," he restated. "You and I are going to perform some tests together."
"Like Portal?"
Johnson frowned at Stephanie.
"Much easier tests here," she quietly offered.
"Sort of," the doctor re-confirmed, "except, uh, much simpler, alright?"
"Uh," Matthew looked around. "Do you know where Stephanie is?"
Johnson motioned to the device. "I'm here," Steph replied, speaking into the small microphone, "Everything's alright. This was your idea." That was a lie, but he probably wouldn't dwell on it.
