Chapter 4
(RIDERS P.O.V)
"Hey Rider." Lizzy, James girlfriend greeted me. She was a small petite girl, much like Maria's size. She was African American, quite the catch to with her beauty of an African princess. She had the sweetest heart; I don't think it was possible for Lizzy to have one bad bone. James parents had taken quite a liking to her; even I had looked upon her as if she was my little sister.
"Hey Liz." I greeted back. We were all currently seated in class. Lizzy had taken a seat next to James and I. She wasn't popular since she had hated attention but being James girlfriend came with popularity.
"Hey we got a rodeo coming up this Friday, think you'll make it?" James asked. I knew he really wanted me to come. But truth be told, I don't know when was the last time I saddled up on one of those bulls and went crazy.
But just then an idea popped up into my mind.
"Could I bring someone?" I asked.
"Yeah, who?" James and Lizzy had asked who the same time causing me to chuckle at their familiarities.
"Her names Maria, remember she's the girl that lives with me now." I whispered so no one else could here. Gossip spread like wild fire in this town, just by hearing something in this damn school even.
"Ooh yeah! bring her so I don't have to be all alone." Lizzy cheered up. She had never liked any of the girls that hangout or maybe followed us around. She was never the type of cheerleader girl, although the cheer squad had asked for her to join many times because of her impressive body and gymnastics skills.
"Wait!, you've never brought any girl to the rodeo accept for your cousin." James eyes me suspiciously, to be honest, I suddenly felt like I was sweating. I had no idea what to tell him. Sure I was attracted to Maria but I does that mean I like her, of course not. Things would just be going to fast.
"Just think she should see this town more, ya know she is new around here." My words were true; I had meant what I'd said. I didn't want Maria to just be cooped up in the house all the time, she should have a life and all I was trying to do was give her a start with the rodeo, no harm done right.
"Well I think that's a great idea, if ya want I could show her around town sometime when I'm free." Lizzy said with the most excitement I've ever seen her eyes with accept for whenever she saw James.
"That would be great-"
"Hi there Rider." I was cut of by the sound of Jessica's voice. This girl never knew when to give up. No one had ever frustrated me the way she did.
"What do you want Jessica." I asked coldly watching as she frowned at my tone.
"Gosh Rider I'm just trying to say hi." If there was a show for best liars, Jessica would of won the damn thing. But unfortunately for Jessica I saw through her lies and knew exactly what she wanted, a one-night stand or more likely one to many.
"Well then don't, I've got nothing to say to you." I said coldly. If looks could kill the one she sent me would have buried me 10 feet underground. She huffed and walked away to the front of the class and took a seat next to her ratchet friends, huh! Even in a little town like this one you'd get your snobby little blonde haired girl.
"I swear one day I'll drag her by her perfect blonde hair and burn her plastic face over a fire." Lizzy said a little so seriously causing James and I to burst out into laughter and leaving Lizzy with a confused expression.
"Slow done there tiger, wouldn't want to go to jail now would ya?" James said still chuckling at Lizzy.
"Whatever." She simply huffed; just then Mr. Brooks had walked in and greeted the class.
The whole day had gone by in a flash. I remember my mother would come pick me up after school in my dad's slick ford fastback; it was a beautiful muscle car. It looked deadly with its full black scheme. My mother would look like a total bad ass in it and everyone would envy her as she drove of like lightning she loved to put on a show in this car. But now it had only been me driving it. The engine still had it's roar of a wild beast that was waiting to be set free.
The drive home would usually be one filled of sadness and depression knowing that I would be going home to an empty house with not a single soul in it. With as many people in my life I had truly felt alone, even though James and Lizzy would visit often it was never enough to full the empty home inside of me.
But today was different. I would be going home to someone in it and not just anyone, Maria. For some reason I really wanted to get to know Maria, I wanted to know what kind of person she really is, I wanted to read her pages and not just judge her cover. Even though if her book cover was beautiful.
Parking my car in the garage - I locked it and closed the garage. Walking up to the porch seeing that it was unusually sparkling, I've never seen it this clean since my mother died. I opened the door and was greeted with the fresh aroma of an earthy yet sweet smell. The wooden floors were shining and the even the wooden furniture.
"Maria." I called out. Soon I heard footsteps rushing down from the stairs.
"Yes Mr. Mar- Rider." She said unsure of what to call me. I suddenly felt the urge to smirk at her.
"The house is spotless, your doing a great job." I complimented her, causing a breathtaking smile to appear in her face.
"Thank you." She merely whispered.
"But as much as you are a good cleaner I did not call you hear to compliment you on how good your skills are." Suddenly her smile had vanished, now replaced with a frown. "You know what's a rodeo?." I asked, she nodded her head, confusion taking over her sad expression. "Would you like to come with me on Friday for the towns rodeo?." I asked with a genuine smile.
"Um, sure." She whispered, her smile no longer absent, as her cheeks turned a light crimson.
"Ooh and one more thing, did you finish school?." I asked. I was concerned on why she was so young and working at the age of 17.
"I finished early in school." She answered.
"Ooh, so I'm living with a smarty pants." I chuckled while she let out her own giggle. Her laugh sounded like an angel singing a sweet melody to me.
It's just the second day she's here and I already got my balls tightened in an knot.
