Chocolate, raspberry, maple, honey, what else? Ohh Caramel, Andrew’s favourite. I think that’s it. I finished grabbing all the syrup bottles I needed for the pancakes we were making. All of them keep telling me that they tire me by making me do most of the cooking work, but they don’t understand. Cooking for them makes me feel that I actually have a family. Instead of the family that I now don’t have. Their presence in my life is the white dot in my currently pitch black life.

But having loving friends that you count as your family also means family, or friend drama. The more close friends you have, the more drama you’ll get. That is just how our lives roll around here. After I had woken up and last night’s memories had came crashing down on me, I realised that this wasn’t the first time one of us messed up just to find the rest of us there, sticking the pieces of our mistakes together, fixing it. We were always there to fix each other’s mistake. This definitely wasn’t the first time.

So why were we so shocked when we found Lucas sloshed up in a bar I never knew about? It’s the normal thing with us. It wasn’t the first time Lucas messes up. It also wasn’t the first time for us to go catch him before he falls off the deep end.

Maybe what shocked me more than his wasted and hammered state was all the things he spilt out of his mouth. Lucas had known the secret that Andrew and I thought was hidden so carefully. He knew that Andrew and I heard his father forcing him to go to that military school. He knew that I went to Mr. Anderson and got into a fight with him to change his mind about Lucas going to the military school. Maybe that left me more baffled than most of what he said.

I also thought about his ‘mystery girl’. The girl he said would never like him back. That left me speechless too. Who in this hell of a school would refuse the all mighty Lucas Anderson? You, idiot. What? No! Lucas may be flirting with me, but does that mean that he likes me? No, Mia. He flirts with you because he likes your friend. Of course he likes you, idiot!

That’s just delusional. If Lucas really liked me, he wouldn’t have hooked up with Tina to piss me off. You mean, to make you jealous. I wasn’t jealous of Tina, I was pissed off that he was banging the enemy for god’s sake! Yeah, you keep telling yourself that. I’m so not up for an argument with my conscious right now, thank you very much.

“The master chef needs to focus on those pancakes before she burns our breakfast.” Rose teased, breaking up my fight with my conscious.

I turned around and found that the pancakes were surely about to get burned. In a panic, I took the pan quickly and swiftly tossed the pancakes on Rose’s plate “That was a close one.” I breathed.

“Yeah, they still look pretty damn good though.” She said, pouring chocolate syrup all over her pancakes.

I chuckled as I tossed more pancakes in Caroline’s plate, and she didn’t waste any time. She slowly poured raspberry syrup over her steaming hot pancakes. I always loved eating raspberries, but the raspberry syrup thing is just not my thing.

“Why do you like raspberry syrup so much?” I asked Caroline.

She grinned at me for a while before she answered me “I think it really describes me.”
