Move #13 - Queens, New York

Day #101

So I've come to the conclusion that Queens isn't so bad after all. After 101 days, you would think you'd get sick of a city, especially with the uncertainty with my crazy situation and all and always wanting to be that weird tourist 24/7 and see EVERYTHING.

But surprisingly, I'm not.

Amelie stops her entry to take a look at the skyline she can see as she sits atop the fire escape that lies right outside her window. The sky starts to turn into a warm pink colour as the mixtures of orange and yellow bleed through the pink sky and the sun peaks out to greet her.

Yup, after all the thirteen moves and thirteen different cities (and two countries) she's been to, Queens was definitely her favourite.

(That little town on the outskirts of France is a close second though, even with it's weird smell and all.)

She looks down at her ripped, messed up journal, the only thing that seemed to be keeping her sane and starts to think about what to write next. But before she can do that, she suddenly feels herself being pulled down by some sort of force.

In an instant, she goes right through the fire escape she was sitting, as if someone had started to melted the bottom, and lands on another. Amelie's eyes widen in terror before she's met with a pair of mischievous brown eyes and she sighs.

"Liberty, for the last time, don't scare me like that!" The brunette girl says, shoving her best friend away as Liberty laughs.

"I'm never going to stop!" Liberty manages to spit out, for she's laughing too much at her friend's expression, "Your face is priceless every time!"

Amelie huffs before directing a thin beam of sunlight into Liberty's eye for a split second, making her yelp and Amelie laugh.

"Yeah, yeah. Laugh it up." Liberty grumbles, pressing her palm onto her closed eye, "I'm not going to go blind again, right?"

Amelie scoffs, "You weren't blind last time! Your eye just wouldn't open."

"Your sister said I was very close to becoming blind."

"But you didn't!"

Liberty dramatically sighs, causing Amelie to wrap her arms around her friend's petit figure.

"Oh come on Liberty. You know I only like to tease you because you're an easy target."

Liberty playfully shoves Amelie off, "I thought you were going to go in a totally different direction than....whatever the heck that was."

Amelie laughs and Liberty eventually does the same, the feeling washing over them just like how the sun is as it rises from the rooftops of the buildings to greet the two girls along with the rest of Queens.

"Do you have to go to work today?"

Liberty nods, "Yeah. After school, I go straight to work so, you have a whole day without me."

Amelie pouts at her best friend, the idea of not seeing her all day is dreadful, "Aw man. Now I really, really wish that you could come to school with me. Why can't you come again?"

"I failed that entry test we took to try and be deemed "worthy" by the school by 3% which, by the way, isn't that much but you know, nerd schools always seek perfection."

Amelie nods in agreement with Liberty's rant but her mind is back in the clouds.

Amelie really doesn't like the thought of being away from her only ally in this messed up world (besides her sister and her brother-in-law). She really liked having her around during her lunch to fool around and talk about how much sophomore classes suck and how the heck Liberty can even survive her senior year but Amelie's been doing it for 101 days now and she always thinks she can manage without the tall brunette by her side.

She's always wrong.

Noticing the time from her phone, Liberty starts to get up, wiping the dirt off her Mickey Mouse pjyama bottoms, "Well Amelie, it's time for you to head to your nerd school."

Amelie rolls her eyes, standing up seconds after Liberty does, "Yeah and it's time for you to go to your regular, boring school."

"Hey, regular high school is great!" Liberty defends, playfully glaring at the sixteen year old, "There's fights and everything. Ooh, and girl drama! Maybe even those girl fights if it's a slow day."

"That's nice?"

"You bet it is!" Liberty states proud as she starts to slip into her room through the window, "You're really missing out."

"I think I'm just fine without all....that." Amelie says with a small smile on her face as she starts to head up the steps of the fire escape to her window, "Catch ya later?"

Liberty nods, "Of course and Amelie?"

Amelie pokes her head below to where her friend is sitting, her journal close at hand.

"Try and make some friends. Don't mope around because I'm not there."

Amelie huffs, playfully rolling her eyes at her, "And you try and pass anthropology class."

"Ugh, you know I'm struggling in that class and barely passing! That's almost impossible for me to do!"

"Well, now you know how impossible your task is."

Liberty sighs, "I hate you."

Amelie just laughs at her best friend before slipping away into the four cream coloured walls that make her room as she prepares herself for the day that arrives as fast as the sunrise she witnessed.

in the distance, you can hear people cringing on how bad this is gonna be and how they saw this coming.

and oh my gumdrops, you are right.

this is gonna be so very........cringy.

but at the same time, I'm so ready for this!!

are you??

(Probably not. 😂)

this book has been in drafts for many, many months and I've been terrified to post it.

I actually still am. even as I type this, I have a bit of nervousness and anxiety.

mostly because I feel like people won't like what I write.

(But honestly, people disliking my writing is nothing new so why do I worry?? 🙄)

but I'm trying to forget all that and then this was born and now it's up for all to see!!

It's gone through a lot of phases before it became the book it is now and I'm actually really happy with this end result.

I hope you are too. ❤️

so, imma just leave this short and sweet and I hope to see you all in the next chapter!!
