Amelie bolts up in a fright, her face lightly drenched with sweat, her body cold.

This was her worst nightmare yet and even though the images of dark red and light yellow start to fade away, the sounds of screams and wails of despair fill her ears, reminding her that nightmares never end even after you wake up.

And so, now shaken up from her nightmare, she takes her time in getting ready for school, slowly changing from her pyjamas to some old jeans, a t-shirt and a baggy sweater Montgomery got for her as a gift. Her shaky hands attempt to fix her bed head but she decides against it and just gently combs it out before heading downstairs, where Genevieve and Montgomery are already sitting at the kitchen table.

Montgomery looks up from the book he's reading and smiles brightly at her, "Good morning sunshine. How did you sleep?"

She shrugs, "Good, I guess."

Amelie feels his gaze burn into the back of her head as she reaches for the box of cereals atop one of the lower shelves. She knows that he's trying to figure her out. He's done it her whole life.

But he doesn't say anything much to Amelie's relief, just observed her quietly and occasionally glancing down at his book to make it seem less obvious.

But she could tell.

"Are you gonna drive me to school today?" She asks, shoving a spoonful of her favourite cereal, Lucky Charms, into her mouth, "Or are you just awake to bother me so early in the morning?"

A pointed gaze is thrown her way and Amelie just shrugs, feeling like her question was valid.

"I'm driving you. Genevieve had to go into work early and she asked me to drop you off instead of letting you take the bus."

She sighs, nodding her head slightly, "Will she be back for dinner this time?"

Montgomery doesn't reply for a moment and Amelie feels like she already knows the answer.

But she's wrong as she watches her brother-in-law remove his attention away from the book and to her.

"Yeah, I think so. Usually when she gets in early, she's home for dinner."

Amelie practically radiates joy at his words and even creates a light beam with her hands without even thinking. Montgomery squeals in terror and ducks the moment he sees the bright yellow-whiteish beam come towards him. Luckily, only a small part of the book got hit.

Amelie immediately stops once she notices the damage she's done and sheepishly places her hands behind her back.

"Whoops."

Montgomery sends her a playful glare and goes to say more but his gaze moves up to the wall clock behind her and he realizes something that makes him stop.

They're gonna be late.

Without a moment of hesitation, Montgomery scrambles throughout the house to get ready and help Amelie get ready for the day, practically pushing her out the door and into his car.

"Hey Monty, relax." She says with a giggle as she watches him freak out over the idea of her being late, "I'll just be late for one day, no worries."

Montgomery playfully glare at her, "If your sister were here right now, she would attack you for saying that. You know she hates when your late."

Amelie laughs, "I know, I know. But you're not my sister."

He leans over to flick her forehead, making her laugh even more and whatever had happened in the morning soon melted away like ice cream on a hot summer's day.

************

Amelie watches quietly as her English teacher explains the importance of a scene from the current Shakespeare play they were talking about and as important this would probably be for the supposed test next week, she couldn't help but let her mind wander.

After everything that had happened the night before with that Spiderboy and her nightmares, she couldn't think straight. It hurt her to even process that whole night.

She softly rubs her temples as she tries to put her focus back on the teacher and attempt to take notes of what he was rambling about. But all she could manage to write were scribbles, or was it just her really messy handwriting?

"Ms. Yvette?"

The brunette's head jerks up to meet the teacher's gaze, her curly brown hair bouncing slightly at the sudden movement.

The teacher notices her sudden attention and narrows his gaze, "I asked you a question. What do you think Shakespeare was trying to tell us about King Lear in this Act?"

Amelie tenses up as all eyes where on her. It made her nervous and she twirled her thumbs underneath the desk, slight yellow sparks coming out of her fingertips from the sudden friction between the light and her thumbs.

"I-I uh, I think that," She trails off, her mind a whirling mess as she tries to figure out what to say, "I-I think that-"

"King Lear is just in pain."

Amelie's brown eyes widen as she turns her head to a shy boy seated a few desks across from her she knows as Peter Parker, his hand up as he takes the attention away from her.

"I think that he was just devastated by the lost of his favourite daughter that suddenly caused him to make rash decisions." Peter continues, twirling the pencil he held between his fingers occasionally and shrugged once he finished his comment.

The teacher nods, eying Amelie as she gives him a shy smile. He pays no attention to it and mumbles something she can't hear before going back to writing on the board. She sighs in relief and tries her best to focus on writing down notes with her still jumbled brain and messy handwriting.

However, Amelie Yvette was unaware of the curious gaze that Peter Parker held as he stared at her, almost forgetting that he still had notes to take down.
______________________________

after a billion years, this book is back from the dead 😂😂

i've actually really missed writing this book. it's nice to come back to this lil fictional world and write about the character i've created.

(i've missed writing about amelie so much 🤧🥺)

but i'm glad to be back in the swing of writing things!!

this chapter mainly focuses on amelie's relationship with montgomery, her brother-in-law and you can tell that they have this close bond that to amelie, helps get feel just a bit more normal than what she actually is.

and i also feel that montgomery is a true friend to amelie just like liberty.

and we even get to see peter's sudden interest in amelie! i wonder why.... 🤔

this chapter was really fun to write and i hope y'all enjoyed it just as much as i did writing it!! please show your love and support for it by voting or even commenting! i'd really appreciate that! 💛
