Despite having these numbers and the way they go memorized, her locker never seemed to cooperate with her, always putting up a fight with her to the point where everyone would glance at her awkwardly and with concern.

And today was no different.

Amelie huffs in frustration, tugging on her yellow lock. She had entered her combination for the third time in a row and it still wouldn't budge. (What a surprise.) She lightly stomps her door down, her frustration only growing.

"You know, you should get that checked out."

Amelie frowns, "But I like this lock Ned! It's one of a kind!"

Ned laughs, shaking his head and it causes Amelie to bow her head sheepishly. She only knows Ned from her English and Chemistry class and that's pretty much it so when they interact, she feels out of place, odd and awkward.

But Ned, being the bubbly, energetic person he was, just laughs at the brunette before turning to face the locker and eyes the lock. Amelie mumbles her combination and Ned opens the yellow lock with ease.

She stares at him in awe, "Woah. How did you do that? Can I learn how to do that?"

He laughs once more and she lowers her head in embarrassment as she listens to his joyful laughter. He notices this and lightly taps her shoulder to make her look back up at him.

"Hey, I'm not trying to be mean, I promise. You know I'd never do that." Ned reassures her and she nods in response. He smiles, "I'll see you in Chem?"

She lets out a light laugh, moving her gaze from him to her locker as she starts to put stuff away, "Yeah. See you in like, ten minutes or so."

He nods, his gaze also shifting away from her to behind her, "Definitely." He then awkwardly gestures to behind her, "I-I have to go."

Amelie turns slightly to see a smiling Peter Parker, waving happily at Ned and shyly waving once he locks eyes with her. She stiffens a laugh and nods to Ned for him to go to Peter, knowing that he probably didn't want to stay with her any longer.

She watches as Ned runs over to Peter in a hurry, smiling and laughing as the brunette boy smiled happily at Ned. She smiles at the two and how they interact with each other as they walk together. It was a kind of spark, a connection no one else in this school seemed to have and it intrigued her. She wanted something like that here but her shy demeanor when you first meet her isn't the best friend maker or appealing to many.

Peter, as he's walking by, glances briefly at her, smiling softly at the girl, and the sudden eye contact makes her immediately turn her attention back to her bag with burning cheeks, embarrassed for being caught staring.

As she turns her head, she bumps her forehead with her locker door from moving it too fast, causing her to let out a soft yelp of pain that nobody seems to hear.

She mumbles a quiet "ouch" before grabbing her stuff, closing her locker and speed walking to her first class of the day, unaware that a certain classmate was watching her go with a small smile on his face and slight concern in his eyes.

*********

Flash forward twenty minutes into Chemistry and Amelie is already bored out of her mind but she still forces herself to do her work, not wanting homework on a Monday night.

She sighs, resting her chin on her palm, lazily writing the answers to the equations written on the whiteboard, occasionally letting the light that shines through the window and onto her desk spark between her fingers.

(She does this unseen by anyone since she's strategically placed by a window at the far end of the class. Plus, she's hunched over her work. Her fingers can't be seen.)

But as she's absentmindedly playing with the light that shines through the window, frantic movements from the classmate across her cause her attention to shift and her hands to lower onto her paper.

The shuffling and small mutters she hears across her makes her both curious and nervous. Did someone see her and is uncomfortably shuffling in their seat at the sight of a girl manipulating light? Or is it just Cindy having trouble with formulas again that she has to ask Ned, who's behind her, hence all the shuffling and mumbling?

When she turns her head, she finds out that it's neither. All it is, is Peter Parker mumbling to himself as he flips to a page behind the worksheet given to them early in the period and glances down at something hidden. She tilts her head to the side, observing his frantic moments for a split second until she sees him turning his head in her general direction, which causes her to turn almost violently in her seat and hit her knee against the wooden lab table.

Amelie lets out a small yelp, barely heard by anyone except Michelle, the quiet bookworm who sits in front of her.

Michelle turns slightly to her, her book still in her hands as she eyes her, "You okay there? That sounded like it hurt."

"N-No, no! I'm good. I-I was just-"

Michelle cuts off Amelie's nervous stuttering by letting out a small chuckle at the girl's behaviour before slightly turning her body away from her and back to the desk, where she can multitask by reading her book and doing her chemistry work.

"Just make sure you don't stare at Parker for too long, okay?" She says to the now red-faced Amelie in a soft tone so that no one can hear.

"I-I wasn't staring." She stutters out, her arms flailing about as she continues to stutter, "I-It wasn't what y-you....Nevermind."

Amelie slumps in her seat, her hair helping her hide her red face from any prying eyes as she unwillingly does her work, hoping and praying that no one heard what had just happened.

Oh what a day this was turning out to be.

what a dork 😂😆

poor amelie can't get a break, can she?

but oh well, what can you do?

anyways, this chapter explores amelie's school atmosphere and we see how she blends in with it and interacts with it. i actually, when I was writing this chapter, was having trouble deciding where she would fit in via the canon characters.

like, would she already be friends with them? enemies maybe? or would she just not know them at all?

i eventually settled for the idea of amelie knowing who they are but her being an awkward bean and not being able to approach them easily outside of the classes she has with them.

so that's that and yeah......

I'm honestly awkward myself so I'm just gonna cut it short and ask for you guys to please vote and comment! don't be a ghost reader! ❤️
