Recovery

For once i had a wonderful dream. There was no twist in the end, There was no tragic end, and i didn't suffer through it. I had a dream that me and Kate got married. it was wonderful. I slowly open my eyes in a hospital room from the first wonderful dream in the longest time. i look on my chest to see Lilly sleeping on my chest.

"Dan?" she said as she rubbed her eyes

"Hey lilly i said patting her head. My hand is still throbbing. "Gosh did i miss you."

"I missed you to Danny. how did you sleep."

"Wanderfull." I pulled lilly in for a hug when i hear the Emergency Room door slam open.

"Danial?" I heard an angry males voice asked. i saw a man in a half tux walk into the room

"Um. hello?" I said obviously confused and freaked out.

"Thomas Betton once told me that if he were to die, you the next Betton would take his place. You will inherit his business and his estate." The man said to me as he stood up " and me, My name is Ruxford. I will be your servant, butler, and housekeeper. I am, Most important of all, I am your gun."

"So what you are saying is..."

"Welcome back to the family,Daniel. Did you know? After you passed out, Your grandfather was allowed by kate to bring you here, to the private medical facility your father started. Oh by the way, someone wants to see you in the next room" Ruxford said as he walks to the door."Anyway, Kate is walking in, i'll have to go. He says as he exits the room. as he walks out of the hospital he glances smiles and waves at Kate as she walks in. she makes her way into my room. When she sees me awake she drops everything. She runs to me and jumps on me next to Lilly

"You got me so worried when you showed up to my house in the position you two were in." she said as she soaks my chest with tears "Lilly was quiet for a while, And i thought you were dead."

"I love you to Kate. So what all is wrong with me? What did those bastards do to Lilly" I say putting my hand on her back

"You have Two broken Legs that may never heal leaving you immobilized you have two large lacerations on your hands one with a slight infection you have broken ribs and a bum eye with a gnarly scar. Lilly was just given some Ketamine and fell asleep."

"Jesus." I say realizing that i have to face my fear of cars because i won't be able to ride bikes with one eye. i guess i'll just have to do. I look at the stack of papers on the ground. "Kate. What are those for?"

"Read it and figure out." She said as she grabbed a handwritten note she hands it to me with a smile on her face the note read as

Danny

Thank you for saving me and my little girl. Sadly though, I don't think i can call her mine any more. Ever since Paul decided we should leave her in the park, I have this feeling of disdain and this feeling of relief. She found you and you have taken more care of her in a week than i have in a month, But i still feel an ache in my heart knowing that i left her without a trace of guilt. When Paul said that he ran into someone who found her and is taking good care of her, I cried for hours.

All this eludes to me asking you to be her permanent home. This may be a hard task to ask of you, but i'm sure you can do it. Just sign the paperwork and take it to a judge and she will be your foster child. Please take care of her.

Me, I'm going to take up the work as an information broker. I'm going to leave town and possibly never come back. I hope our paths cross again Daniel.

I wipe my tears in happiness at the good news. I heard a gentle knock at the door. "Come in." I said as the door slowly opened. I saw Bridget walk in and she started crying.

"Please don't tell me Asylum did this because you helped my father. Please no." She was leaning forward trying to hide her face with her hair. "I just wanted you to help my father. I saw the last name betton. I read your file and what happened to your sister is just horrible. I knew you were the son of the Late Betton Brother Jay Betton who had died from a tragic, car accident."

"Wait... My sister?" I asked her a little confused. I look at Kate who is staring at bridget very aggressively

"If you know what is good for you, you should shut your mouth" Kate says pointing at her.

"Well i think he should know how he lost 4 years of his life because of you and Tom" Bridget was glaring at Kate. Kate was about to stand up and kill her.

"Kate please, don't keep these things from me. If there is anything i need to know... Please tell me Bridget." Kate stands up and gives me a kiss on the forehead.

"Just please don't hate me for what i had to do. You would have killed yourself. I love you, just please remember that." Kate said as she walked to the door "I'll leave you two alone" She walked out the door.

"Now..." Bridget said. "You have no idea of what you did?"

"No." I said to her. "I have no clue. I know i was missing something from my past. I just didn't know it was someone this important"

"Not just that, You are actually 27 years old. Tom had my boss Dr, Mclauchlen remove those memories. He even manipulated your childhood memories. Yes you had a little sister. Her name was Elaine Betton. I'm sorry to say this, but you killed her."

"What. I had no idea" I said hearing the heart monitoring machine start to speed up.

"That's about the jist of what i know. I'm sorry i couldn't be a bigger help" She said as she wipes her tears. "Talk to Mclauchlen, I'm sure he will fix anything you are missing"

"Thank you." I just wanted to be alone for a moment with my thoughts. I hear another subtle knock at the door.

"Hello?" I heard an old man's voice say.

"Grandpa?" I ask. I saw the man enter the room and place down the plethora of keys that was in my uncle's possession.

"By the look on your face, i'm guessing someone told you about Elaine" He said as he sat down at the foot of my bed. "I was so sad that you had to do that. She was so pretty."

"I wonder, was i kicked out of Asylum, Or did i quit?" I asked him.

"Tom removed you after he erased your memories. He didn't want you to get some of your memories back from a familiar environment"

"Damn" I say as i lay my hand over my eye. "Thank you Grandpa."

"Don't talk to me all friendly like. You may think that the family hates you because you survived that accident, but it's actually because you killed Elaine"

"I just don't understand why i'm getting lampooned for something that i don't even remember"

"I think that's why some of us also hate you. You got another chance. That's more than some other people ask for" He said after he stood up "There is one relationship that will not separate us. You are my boss now, and that will never change. So, see you at ASPB, Boss"
