Cass' POV
I woke up by the sound of a door being shut. I immediately stood up and popped my claws out, getting ready to attack the person when a familiar scent ran through my nose which made me calm.
Derek.
I breathed out and walked out of my room where I saw Derek standing at the window.
"Hey." I said. He turned around and gave me a smile I haven't seen in years.
"Did I wake you?" He asked me. I nodded in response.
"Sorry." He told me.
I shook my head. "No, don't be. I need to get out of bed anyway."
Derek nodded in understanding and looked at me. I sat on the couch amd flopped my feet at the table, earning a look from Derek but I ignored it. My eyes wandered around Derek's place. The loft reeks of different scents from different people. I recognize some of them like Boyd's, Cora's, and Erica's.
Erica.
I completely forgot about her. Derek must have been feeling a lot worse. I looked up at Derek who was now gazing at the window, the scent of grief was oozing out of him.
"I'm sorry about Erica." I spoke, catching Derek's attention as he turned around to face me.
He let out a sigh and crossed his arm at his chest and looked down.
I felt my heart ache at the sight of my brother. I stood up and walked over to him. Derek didn't look up at me and fixed his gaze on the floor. Derek doesn't like anyone to see this side of him.
I placed a hand on his shoulder as a sign of comfort. Derek looked up at me gave me a forced smile.
Both of us stood in silence when a tall man with curly hair walked towards the living room. Derek and I snapped out of our own worlds and looked at the unknown man.
"Hey Derek...and Cass." The man said. I crossed my arms and looked at him.
"Cassandra." The man looked at me confusedly. "The only people that can call me Cass are my family and friends."
The man rolled his eyes and walked towards the kitchen. "Hello to you too." I heard him say under his breath.
I looked at Derek and raised my eyebrow at him.
"That's Isaac. He's my beta." He told me. I nodded in understanding and sat on the couch.
"You should probably get ready." Derek suddenly said. I looked at him confusedly.
"Why?"
Derek leaned at the wall. "You're going to school."
My eyes widened as I shot up from my seat. "What? Why?"
"Because, I'm gonna need you to keep an eye on certain werewolves like Isaac, Boyd, and Scott and make sure they don't do something stupid that will get them killed." He explained.
I scoffed. "Why do I have to do it? Why can't Cora do it?"
