When one leaves, the other waits for 10 minutes to give the other one a headstart. Para hindi na sila magkapanabay pa.

“I would like to talk to both of you.” Tita said in a stern voice.

“Sige, mahal. Ikaw na ang bahala. Mauuna na ako.”

Paalam ni Tito, and with a sympathetic glance at us,he left.

“May gusto ba kayong sabihin sa akin,Mommy? Baka ma late ako sa trabaho. Can you just tell me later?” sabi ni Nana.

“No, and it’s just 6. Your shift starts at 7. So don’t try to wiggle out of this conversation,Ayanna.”

First name basis. This is serious.

God, I hate confrontations.

“Tita, ma lalate po talaga kami. Monday po at kailangan early kami ng 20 min—

“ Shut up both of you and sit down.”

If you were told to shut up and sit the way she told us to, you would have listened.

“ I have put up with your crappy treatment toward each other long enough and I cannot take it anymore. I cannot believe that you two would be acting like this in your lifetime! Whatever petty thing you fought about, i expected that you would resolve it in a minute! But this is not acceptable!’

“Mom, please calm d—

“I told you to shut up, didn’t I?”

Tinikom nalang ni Nana ang kanyang bibig.

“I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON, AND I KNOW THAT YOU TWO HAVE NO PLANS TO TELL ME. BUT I AM NOW EXERCISING MY POWER AS AN AUTHORITY IN THIS HOUSE THAT BOTH OF YOU GET YOUR THING STRAIGHT AND FIX WHATEVER ISSUES YOU HAVE WITH EACH OTHER. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF COLD SHOULDERS AND AVOIDANCE IN THIS HOUSE. I THOUGHT YOU VALUE EACH OTHER MORE THAN YOU VALUE YOUR PRIDE.”

Nakayuko na lang kami pareho at nakikinig.

“So,I am expecting that before you come home, you have fixed the situation and have stopped this lunacy that you both are channelling because if this is hard for you—and don’t you try to deny it—it’s hard for us too. We are seeing you grow apart from each other and it’s breaking my heart. Do you understand?”

Nobody answered.

“I SAID DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!”

Magkapanabay pa kami ni Nana na nagsabing “Yes!”.

“Good, now go. And drive fast baka mabawasan sweldo niyo pag late kayo. At hindi ko kasalanan iyon. Kung hindi ba naman kayo mga hunghang, away ng away.”
