It was dark out. Very dark. But hot. Strangely hot. The scorched land didn't look like anything had happened. It appeared to be a normal day. But appearances can be deceiving. Like the fact that it was early fall and we weren't in school. Odd, right. It wasn't by choice. No one was alive to teach us. No adults, no fellow students. Just a small town group of kids. We wandered the streets alone. Sweating and afraid, but not deterred. The task at hand was survive.
There were twelve of us. Twelve simple teens with extraordinary talents. There was my self. Very persuasive and problem solving. Almost like a political leader. I could make plans quickly and precisely. And they usually seemed to work. I was also rather well fit. I was the second youngest but the tallest of the group. I guess you could say I was the team leader.
Beside me, walked Gavin. Very bulky. The muscle of the group. Quarterback for the Middle school football team. He weighed in at about 210 lbs and was pure muscle. His shoulders were massive and did justice to his even larger arms. He stood at six foot one inches and that was without hair. He could lift almost his entire weight but had an Achilles's heel, or knee cap in truth.
On the other side of me was Ian. Very smart, able to calculate large equations in his head in the matter of seconds. He wasn't the kindest on the eyes but he meant well. He also stood around six foot but was very thin. Almost unnaturally. He had very long legs and short arms. But he was strong. He also controlled his anger and jealousy well, but once it was unleashed, it was like a tornado. Destructive and harmful to all around him.
Directly behind me was Nate. Fidgety fellow. Kinda twitchy and shifty eyed. Didn't trust too many people, and hell, I don't blame him. He was incredibly smart and was able to tell if things were safe to eat or drink. Also he was a brilliant astronomer for a fourteen year old. He could tell us which direction to go, or which direction we were going. Sometimes even lighten the mood with constant jokes or constellations in the overbearing night sky.
Then we had Nick. He was short as well as short tempered, but was able to control himself. In all he seemed a happy person and he was always positive. His skills include mental math and complete and utter engineering ability. He isn't the best with blue prints, but if you give him an idea, he'll build it in no time flat. He's a packrat and keeps all he builds in his man purse. A hoarder but in a good and useful way.
Next we had Kyra. The little school girl. The one with all the smarts. The one who can play a mean game of 'Cards Against Humanity', break up with her boyfriend, and explain to you the square root of infinity, yet still be in bed by eight thirty. Kind of a know it all but she means well. She's very kind and always brings a smile to your face. She specializes in the environment. Telling which foods are save or harmful. Keeping a log in a drawing notebook of all the areas, cities, and landmarks we pass.
Then, there was Angela. Very pretty young girl with a lot of know how on geography and hiking. She knew how to maneuver even the most dangerous of landscapes. She was very fit and very smart. She knew exactly how to get out of the stickiest of situations in the darkest of times. She had the know how to shelter from different types of weather and even falling debris. Useful in a time of dire need.
Next there was Miranda. Very knowledgeable on how to survive. She was a hunter. Knew which animals to eat and which parts of them were safe, and even which parts were useful to make things like tools, clothing, bandages, even ropes. She also knew how to hand fish for food and resources. Plus she was the only one with the guts to grab a fish by its slimy, scaled body.
Beside her walked Emilee. An extremely beautiful girl. She was smart and kind hearted. She had good survival instincts but wasn't the best with planning. But no matter, for her will to survive was stronger than her knowledge, and this would be her avail. In a moment of mortal terror, her quick thinking and tactics to survive would eventually save the whole team.
Walking in front of me was Katie. Vey quick and small. She could fit into tight spaces and move quickly through areas. If she knew her task, she complete it with accuracy and expert precision. She worked fast but in a way that her work was not slurred or the accuracy deterred in any form.
Walking beside her was another Emily with the original spelling. She was fit, no joke. Just as Gavin. She could maneuver around areas with distinct flexibility and expert stamina. She took kindly to her art yet did not flaunt it often. Very humble young woman and a great listener.
Finally we had Morgan, or Momo for short. He was rather tall lanky guy. Kinda nerdy in a gangstalicious sort of way. He was a weapons specialist. Someone you wouldn't expect but he knew everything about every gun, knife, or explosive ever made and he could use each and every one all the same. And on this earth, that was needed.
We were a small group with the best talents but only combined would we survive. And any teenager knows, thats practically impossible.
