We emerged from the woods, into a small town like, four way intersection. On one side, there was a movie rental store. On the other was a small diner and gas station. The next side held a small drug store and behind, an abandoned shopping center. And on the final corner, there was a few car was stations, a lumber store, and a small icecream shop.

The entire place was barren, with stalled cars lining the street. Bodies lined side walks and especially around the gas station. It was a sight of devastation. I looked to Morgan in dismay. Katie was clinging to Nick ever so tightly. Gavin scanned the area as if he had just seen a ghost. Emilee covered her mouth and began to weep. Emily and Miranda hugged each other. Angela and Sam stood with mouths agape, Sam still a bit shook up after the previous encounter.

Morgan jogged up beside me.

"I see the lumber market down the road there. Maybe you can gather some wood to build our shelter better. I'll see if I can start one of these cars." He looked across the field of cars.

"Sounds good," I nodded. "Take Nick with you, maybe he can find some building materials."

"Sweet" him and I bumped fists and made way back to the group.

"Alright." I began. "We need to stock up on previsions, Kyra, Emily, Emilee and Katie, head over to the drug store there and gather food, water, and medical supplies. Morgan and Nick are gonna get us a car so take as much as you can. Miranda and Angela, head over to the gas station and see what you can supply Morgan and Nick for the cars. Gavin, You're with me, we're gonna go get some wood from the lumber market."

Emilee stepped forward, a bit concerned. "How did this zinc kill everyone?" She pleaded, "zinc is a vitamin. Its good for you."

"Not when you breathe it in." Interrupted Angela.

"How are we not breathing it then?" Emilee continued.

I ran my finger across the ground and picked up a fine powder. "Its weighted. It all fell to the ground now. So when we sleep, from now on we should stay off the ground."

She nodded. Then we split up to accomplish what we needed. When we got to the lumber market, we noticed that part of the roof had collapsed in, directly in front of the door way. There was an opening, but it was much to small for Gavin or I to fit through.

I scanned my surroundings, looking left to right. "Theres a garage over there. Lets see if we can lift the door." I told Gavin. The two of us ran over and yanked at the door, but it was no use.

"Get Emily over here." I motioned to Gavin. "Maybe she can get through this small space."

We called for Emily and she came to us. "what do you need guys?" She asked.

"We need someone to get through this gap here and open the garage. You're a dancer, you must be nimble. D'you think you could get through there?" I pointed to the small opening at the front door.

"I guess I could try." She shrugged. She opened the door, and slid through the hole with ease.

"Good, now get to the garage." Gavin called.

After a few seconds, the motors began to hum, and the garage climbed up. Gavin and I jogged to the opening and entered.

"Lets just grab all the 2 by 4's, some nails, and a couple hammers." I looked to Gavin.

"Ye." He responded. We paced to the isle with the wood we needed and began grabbing them in bunches.

"So this is where guys go to do 'manly' stuff" Emily teased.

I threw about 20 boards over my shoulder. "Yeah, I guess this is as manly as your gonna..."

I froze.

"As your gonna?" She asked.

I hushed her and tuned my listening. There was a rumble. The doors and windows began to shake. soon, the walls, and then the floor. Then there was a loud cracking sound. "Shit!" I called. The walls began to shatter, at two particular places, parallel to each other. "Gavin, take the wood and go. The place is splitting." A large crack tore through the floor, separating Emily from myself.

The crack was much to large to jump. I threw the wood down, and fell to my hands and knees, then reached out.

"Emily, you have to jump. I promise I'll catch you."

She was hesitant, but she did so. The rack of wood behind me began to lean. Gavin ran to hold it up, but he could not push it back into place. The ground was still shaking and separating further. I had Emily in my arms, and was trying to pull her up.

I saw blade was lazily stuck at the top of the rack which gavin held up, tilting towards me. The blade fell and sliced through my hand. The skin from my left hand was torn from the muscle and bone was visible. The pain was striking and throbbing, and blood leaked down my finger tips. I was only gripping Emily with my right hand now.

She looked down into the deep, black, smoky pit and back up to me. "You can't pull me up." She whispered.

"Yes I can!" I strained.

She shook her head. "No, you guys have to go. I'll be ok."

"Not without you!" I shouted. "I love you." I shook my head as tears filled my eyes. She looked up to me, then pulled herself up so that her head was next to mine. She turned to me and whispered "goodbye my love." Then kissed me on the cheek and let go of my hand.

"Nooooooo" i shouted and held on to the scream for what felt like an eternity. I watched as she disappeared behind the smoke screen and I could hear her scream dim as she fell.

Gavin finally threw the rack backwards and turned to me. My vision was impaired by tears and sorrow.

"We have to go man." Gavin shook me.

"I had her gavin, I had her in my hand." I looked at my left hand that was drooling blood, and my upper arm that was turning a pale color. I soon realized, it wasn't sorrow blurring my vision. I stood up and put my hand to my head. I had a stunning head ache and suddenly forgot where I was.

I stumbled back wards and leaned backwards inti the pit. Gavin caught my left hand just before I fell. I remember a stinging pain, like a thousand needles, all stabbing my hand. Then a polished black ford mustang burst through the wall, and after that, all went black. My eyes crashed closed my body fell into a lifeless black hole.
