I got Nick to his feet after a mere five minutes, but his sobs only intensified. "You could have saved her" He screamed. "I loved her. This is your fault."
I slapped him and he stopped crying. "Nothing is going to change it now, grow up and stop crying."
"I'm sorry that your precious Emilee is still alive and the one I loved is not." He snapped back.
"Shut your fucking mouth, you know we aren't together." I turned to him and stared down on him.
He reached into my pocket and yanked my wallet. As he opened it, pictures of Emilee spilled across the floor.
I put my hands on his shoulders and shoved him to his back. "Don't touch my wallet ass hole."
He jumped to his feet and tried to punch me. I caught his arm and twisted it behind his back. He stomped on my foot and fell to the ground as I released him. I pulled one of the pistols out of my pocket.
Emilee stepped in front of me. "Guys, stop fighting." I shoved her out of the way and pointed the gun to Nicks head.
Emilee sprang at the gun and tore it from my hands, them she used the handle to bludgeon me in the side if the head. "Stop it!" She screamed. "Fighting isn't gonna change anything. What's done is done."
I stood up. "You're right." I rubbed the side of my temple. I offered a hand to help Nick up. He smacked my hand and jumped to his feet. "Don't touch me jack ass." He brushed himself off and started walking.
"It's still not safe here guys. We need to keep moving." I looked at the others. "Gavin, see if that truck over there still has keys in it."
He ran over to a cherry red ford F1-50. "Ye." He gave me a thumbs up.
"Good. Take Nick and Sadie with you."
Kyra stepped forward. "Can I go with them too? I can sketch a better map that way."
"Good thinking, go with them." I gestured them to the truck. Sam, Angela, Sadie and Miranda all climbed in the back seat of the mustang and Morgan got in the drivers. I stepped in the passenger side and handed Morgan the taser to start the car.
I turned around in my seat and Sam got to work. She started by pouring alcohol over the wound. It stung as my cut was very deep. I clenched my hand into a fist and gritted my teeth. She used some cotton to dab at the cut and then stitched the cut together. There was no gauze in the medical kits, so we fashioned a wrap out of a shoelace.
"We should be in Illinois soon." Angela said as she read road signs. Gavin made sure to stay right behind us as we drove. Our windshield was cracked and our car dented to shit. I'm surprised to this day how that thing ran.
Peering out the window. We could see large bugs, like the spider we had seen before. Giant ants, spiders, beetles. Anything you could think of. Some of them, no bigger than a dog. Others nearly thirty feet across. I figured it was best to just stay on the road.
We crossed the state line and found a small town. It was silent, and appeared to be desolate. We stopped our vehicles in the center, and got out to stretch, as we had been driving for quite some time.
There was a growling sound. I reached for one of the two pistols I had. "Guys, get back to the car... I hear a flesh eater." I backed up slowly. Then out of no where, a mass of skin and muscle fell from the sky and flattened our mustang. I fell onto my back and my gun skid across the ground. "Holy shit!"
The beast stood up. It looked like a man, but it was almost ten feet tall and its body seemed to be inflated. Like a hairy balloon, dripping blood.
