My eyes strained. My head throbbed and my teeth ached. I opened my eyes. I couldn't tell where I was. I could see there was a tan hanging roof above me, and I felt I was moving... well not me, but whatever I was in. I slowly regained feeling, starting with my left hand. I felt a stab, a sharp pain, pulsing through my hand. I clenched my teeth, then sat up.
"Where... Where the hell am I?" I asked.
"With as fast as Morgan was driving," Emilee shouted, "we're probably in Vegas by now."
"Don't give him false hopes" teased Kyra. "We just passed the boarder of Ohio to Indiana."
"Indiana... Turn on the radio." I gestured to Morgan. "You can't drive dumb ass." I shook my head.
"I was more qualified than Mr. No-skin-hand back there. How's it feel by the way."
"It doesn't." I rose my arm up to see that Morgan had used his favorite beanie to make me a tourniquet. "At least the pain's gone." I could faintly hear the radio so I leaned into the front seat of the mustang, and flipped the volume knob.
"Citizens are advised to stay in doors until further notice. A cloud of poisonous gasses has been sent into the air and is now quickly spreading across the U.S." There was an emergency broadcast on. "Cities are being evacuated as we speak. A list of cities to be evacuated immediately are to follow."
I sat back and shook my head. "The entire state of Ohio, completely wiped out accept for a few kids."
The car was heavily cramped with all of us. Morgan was in the Driver's seat, with Miranda in the passenger beside him. I was on the floor in front if the back seat, which was packed with Emilee, Sam, Angela and Kyra. Nick and Katie were in the back of the car, sitting in the opened trunk.
"Exciting, ain't it?" Asked Morgan, "like a cross country trip"
I placed my hand to the back window and thought about my family. My friends. Pets. Everyone and everything i knew was gone. "Goodbye old friend." I whispered, and I clenched my eyes shut.
"I wonder if we'll start to see people soon?" Sam sat fully open and award to her surroundings. I sat up on the floor of the car and peered through the side window. Just like back home, there were rows, upon rows of cars, still and silent. The entire landscape was upsetting, dark and gloomy.
There was a heavy dust, almost like sand, blanketing the ground.
"I think this is all we're gonna see until we spot that dust cloud." Miranda warned.
"Can this mustang go any faster? Maybe we can catch up." I patted Morgan on the shoulder.
He shifted gears and began to push down with his foot. "I think we could. It is a mustang after all" Morgan smirked.
"I wonder what Katie and Nick are talking about," Angela nudged kyra on the shoulder.
Kyra squinted at her. "Why would that matter to me?" The anguish in her voice was growing.
"Oh nothing, nothing." Angela went about as if it had never come up.
"Oh no, you obviously meant something, so lets hear it?" Kyra became annoyed.
Angela was stunted. "I was just saying that Nick and Katie, you know."
Kyra rolled her eyes and rand her fingers through het flowing ginger hair. "Oh my gosh! Why would I care. I don't like Nick like that."
"Alright." Angela smirked.
Kyra was pissed. She stood from her seat. "What is that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing." Angela teased.
"You know what?!?" Kyra balled up a fist.
"You know what? Shut the hell up, both of you!" I shouted. "We're not gonna survive together if we can't make friends. Angela, shut up, kyra, learn to take a joke. Jesus." I sat back.
The twi exchanged looks for a moment or two, then apologized.
The car hustled to a quick stop and there was a loud crashing sound. A thick, red liquid covered the windshield which now had a large crack in it.
"Oh shit." Morgan shifted into park and opened his door. I sat up and pushed open one if the side doors and climbed out.
"I think we hit somebody." Morgan scratched his head.
"Ya think dumb ass?" I walked in front of the car. On the ground was the body of a small girl, about the age if 6 in a purple shirt and black skirt, with white leggings and a pair of black moccasins. "You hit a little girl you idiot."
Morgan put his hands on his waist. "The problem is, I don't know where she cane from. If she were there, I would've saw her. Like she came out of no where."
There was a growing pool of blood around the little girl and her black hair was staining. "Should we check to see if she's okay, or what?" I asked.
"Lets flip her over." Morgan and I knelt down beside her to help turn her over, I at her feet and Morgan at her head."one, two, three. Flip" we flipped the girl over. Her face was covered in curs and bruises, and she certainly wasn't breathing. Her body was cold, and the temperature outside was very warm. "She's been dead a while now."
Morgan put his hand on her head. Ad he did, she grabbed ahold of his wrist and tried to bite at it.
"Shit!" Morgan shouted and he fell back. He slid back and kicked at the girl. She crawled towards him. I fell back too. "Get... Get the gun!" Morgan called. "Its in my bag by the front seat."
Miranda opened up the door. "Throw me the rifle!" I shouted.
"I've got this." She held up her hand, then peered down the sight of the gun. Bang. The little girl had a gaping hole in her head, and blood poured across the floor.
Morgan gasped for breath. "Dude.... That.,, that was just like Call of Duty."
I chuckled, then walked over to help him up. "Fucking zombies bro."
