A/N: So this isn't gonna be like a romantic thing. So. yeah. But I got this idea looking at Fairy Tail quotes. So just a quick, little update for you guys. I hope you enjoy it to some extent! (or at least enjoy the idea behind it).
You barely ducked down in enough time to dodge the attack. You could feel the heat all around you, and it was oh-so familiar. Comforting, too. Where had you felt it before? It was a warmth in your very bones, relaxing your muscles and calming your heart. But you had to fight and couldn't let your thoughts wander.
"Nice try, but your fire won't work on me!" You scoffed. The hood you wore covered most of your face. You couldn't see very well, either, between your hood and the darkness all around you. The fire was the only form of light around inside the guild.
"I'm just getting fired up!" The boy laughed.
Laughed.
Your enemy had the audacity to laugh as if this battle were some fun game for him. Feeling irked by his lack of seriousness, you attacked with more, sending the boy flying through the wall. Light poured through the hole and into the guild hall. You followed him outside, slightly cringing from the brightness.
"Better start being more serious, flame-boy." You grinned. "As soon as I'm done with you, I'm sure my guild will have destroyed yours by then." While you didn't have a personal grudge against Fairy Tail, for some reason your guild did. And they were your people. Just because they did something you didn't necessarily agree with didn't mean you'd leave them in their time of need. You were one of the strongest in your guild.
A surprising amount of force came in contact with your midsection and you went crashing into a tree, or, more like three. Groaning, you began to pick yourself up from the ground. How strong were these Fairy Tail wizards?
"Anyone who lays a finger on the guild is an enemy," the boy claimed as he walked towards your hunched figure, "and I'll destroy them all."
Was he going to kill you?
At this rate, he seemed strong enough to do so.
When he stopped in front of you, it forced you to raise your head. Your hood fell back from your head as you coughed up blood, wondering just how many ribs the one hit had broken. More than one, you were sure.
To your surprise, the onyx eyes you stared into widened, and his death-glare vanished. You'd even go as far as to say he had stumbled back a few steps in his surprise, but you weren't sure because your vision wasn't the best at the moment.
"Y/n....?" The boy whispered, and you could barely hear him. How did he know your name? You didn't recall telling him at any point during your exchange of magical blows.
He took a slow step forward, and then another. He dropped to his knees in front of you and met your gaze. The close proximity allowed you to see him a little better, your blurry vision clearing ever so slightly. The pink hair was the first thing you noticed, and you blinked in surprise. "Natsu..." You couldn't believe it.
"Natsu..." You repeated, a little louder.
"NATSU YOU IDIOT!" The pink haired slayer went flying as your fist, full of magic, his his chest full-on. "You promised you would come back!" Your hands trembled and the heat boiled in your stomach hotter than any fire Natsu could ever produce. "I waited for you!" Your voice caught slightly and you had to swallow to not crack your words. "You never came back!"
Standing up, Natsu shook his head, bits of rock falling from his pink locks. "I thought you were dead." It was a terrible excuse and you both knew it. The boy was an idiot.
"I thought you'd keep your promise. But it looks like you found something more important and just forgot." You couldn't keep the crack out of your voice any longer. He walked towards you, getting blurrier by the second until you felt the hot, wet tears rolling down your cheeks. "J-Just go to your stupid guild, you good-for-nothing jerk." You stutter out.
Emotions you had thought you'd long since locked away into the deepest, darkest corners of your unforgiving heart bubbled to the surface and overflowed the iron gates of your heart. You blinked and the tears fell down your cheeks again, temporarily clearing your vision, and you could see the conflict written all over Natsu's face.
The unspoken battle in his head.
You were his nakama, from long ago.
But you had also hurt his guild, his nakama now.
And you could tell he was struggling, even though you told him to leave.
"I'm not going with you to that stupid guild so just go!" You shout desperately, just wanting to rid yourself of the horrible feeling eating away at your gut. Or maybe that was the aftermath from the punch Natsu had delivered to your gut. Even now he packed quite the punch. And he still sucked at holding anything back. You nearly smiled at the thought.
"But-" Natsu began, hand reaching out to touch you.
Flinching away, you smacked his hand down. "I said get out of here you pathetic Fairy!" Your magic flared from your body, surprising both of you as Natsu was pushed back twenty feet from where he had stood, marks in the ground a straight path to where he now stood. Taking the chance that you saw, you turned around and rushed through the trees, but you knew that his nose would find you. It always had.
"Natsu!" You giggled, unable to help yourself. He was being stupid again, trying to use his flame and failing miserably. So he had given up and decided to complain to the sky, cursing his dragon for leaving him.
"Stupid Igneel! If this is another of your tests I'm gonna pass and when I find you, I'm going to beat you up!" He finished the last of his rant and finally sat down.
The two of you were curled up together by the fire Natsu had barely managed to create. You shuffled closer to Natsu for body heat, like you had come to do. At first he had called you gross and told you to stay away, but after the first night that you nearly froze to death, he stopped complaining. By now, he stopped making those grossed out faces too, and he even wrapped an arm around your shoulder and rubbed your upper arm.
"You'll find him one day, Natsu. Don't worry." You assured him, yawning and trying to blink away your foggy haze.
"Don't fight it. Go to sleep you stupid girl." Natsu grumbled, but his cheeks were pink and he was clearly pleased.
You smiled faintly, letting the darkness take over and comfort you, but the warmth of his flame was more comforting than anything.
When you woke up, Natsu was no where to be seen. And when you looked around, you couldn't see the fire you'd built the night before, or any familiar area. You screamed at the realization and tried to jump up and move, only to become acutely aware that you were tied up to a tree. You struggled in the binds and had little success.
It seemed like hours that you were tied there, and you had passed out and woken up in your panic several times. Had anyone even been around? How did you get there? A rustle in the bushes caused you to tense, your breathing ceased. Leaves peppered his pink hair as he darted from the bushes and burned the ropes enough for you to get out. Without missing a beat, Natsu grabbed your hand and pulled you after him.
The two of you ran through the forest until neither could continue.
"H-How did you... find me..?" You asked in between breaths, barely able to form audible words.
Natsu grinned at you, and then continued to pant. "I have... the best nose... ever!" He caught his breath faster than you did. "I'll always be able to find you with my nose. Your scent is too distinct to forget." He laughed. "That was fun."
Even now you didn't know if you could outrun his nose, but you had to try. If he started asking questions...
You knew he wouldn't like the answers.
