"I have homework."
"So do I."
"Want to do it together?"
"Why are you acting like a child? You're 17!"
"17 and a half actually."
"Ugh!"
"Seriously though, wanna do it together. We can go to your house if you're not comfortable with-."
"No."
"But-."
"No means no."
With that she turned to walk away. She had to admit that she was starting to warm up to the guy. He could be obnoxious at times but in all the years of her life, he was the only one that actually paid attention to her.
She couldn't let him come to her house. As much as she wanted him to hold her, to comfort her, and to tell her that everything was alright, she couldn't let him step into the trench of misery and sorrow that was named her home.
Ever since her brother died on that fateful night, her whole world had changed. He was a major part of her, and suddenly he was ripped out like how a paper is ripped from a notebook. Her father took it upon himself to practically live in his office and her mother decided to drown her sorrows in bottles of alcohol and drugs.
Then the cheating scandal came. Her mom, in her drunken stupor, brought many men home, none of which were her father. Her father on the other hand, stayed in his office 24/7 and didn't find out until later, when he caught her mother and another guy together.
They had fought long and hard that night. Screaming insults and shouting and shrieking with rage. Her mom was saying that her dad never came home to take care of them. Her dad said that she wasn't doing anything by drinking and that she should take care of herself before expecting other people to take care of her. What they forgot was her. No one stopped to think that the little girl at that time could be affected by this. Her parents didn't realize how weak she was, how broken she was, and they forgot about her.
She was left to fend for her own, to try to move on and turn into stone in order to survive. But she couldn't, she needed someone. There was no one there. Her brother was gone.
