"Are you okay?"
"Do I look okay?"
"No."
"Then I guess you have your answer."
When Michael first entered the high school premise, she had caught his eye. She was beautiful, in a sad sort of way. Michael could tell as soon as he looked at her for the first time that she was a broken, or at least on the verge of breaking.
Her eyes filled with pain, her face sunken, her body thin and frail, as if she was about to fall apart at any moment.
He wanted to find what was causing her the agony, and he wanted to make it go away. He wanted to fix her.
