Four days later, I went to Maya's house only to see her with Geun. This time their conversation seemed different. I kept a distance, hiding behind a tree nearby. Maya was trying to close their relationship but Geun just wouldn't let go that he was nearly going to take her by force until I finally interfered. I gave him a left hook on the face and reprimanded him. Again he brought up the issue of me being a bad luck and a total jerk who wounded Maya's feelings. I was willing to accept that ridicule. What I didn't imagine was that Maya was still going to defend me. It was as if my world revolved. "I thought you were any different Geun! You were just like all those bullies! No, actually, you're worse! Stay away from me. I will never love you." Maya said. "Fine!" Geun replied boastfully and left.

Maya was still crying in my arms, traumatized by the near incident about to happen. I escorted her inside her house and gave her a glass of water. "Are you ok?" I asked her as I sat in front of her holding her other free hand on the table. "Thank you, Khin. Thank you for saving me. I didn't expect you'd still do that after all those words I told you." she said with a tone of guilt. "Of course, Maya. You are my best friend and more than that, you are the woman I love. I love you" I said hoping she'd accept it. "You don't have to. Don't love me because I love you. Love me because you do. Love me because you love me." I then replied without hesitation,
"I do." We both shed tears of joy and pulled each other into an embrace. After a few moments of silence, we withdrew from each other's embrace and held each other's hands. "In the right time Khin. As of now, against all odds?" she initiated. "Against all odds." I agreed with a smile. Until now, I could still hear others say, "He's the man; the man who brought the bad luck or the man who became viral." I admit it knives in the heart but I know that with the right people, right beliefs and faith, we can make it.
