Chapter One
It started as a normal day. Same annoying alarm clock, same bunk beds, same Avengers movie poster on the wall. I thought it would be a day like any other, but that was when my luck changed.
I woke up to the blaring cacophony of my alarm clock. It was still as hideous as when I first got it. That morning was a terrible one.
I had set the alarm for five-thirty, because I was on the cross country team and I needed to wake up early for practices. Well, I had set it on high volume because I was a sort of heavy sleeper. When it went off, it scared me so bad I shot up and hit my head on the top bunk. The blow knocked me out cold. I was roused by my mom who had to come in and shut off the alarm because I wasn't doing it. Luckily, I made it to practice on time. But, back to the story.
I ripped off the blanket I now used as a mute. Even on quiet, that alarm clock is still very loud. I stomped on the alarm, accidentily changing the hour ahead once. (I keep my alarm clock on the floor because my desk is on the other side of the room).
I looked up at my brother on the top bunk. His dark brown hair and fox-like features were still sound asleep. I will be ever amazed that he can sleep through that harsh noise.
I got dressed, did my hair, and went upstairs to eat breakfast. My mom was sitting at the kitchen table, reading the newspaper.
"Hey Tony" Said mom, not looking up from her newspaper. My mom was like a normal mom. She had brown hair, green eyes, and a wonderful smile. Her face was a normal oval shape.
"Where's dad?" I asked. Dad was usually sitting at the table, drinking his favorite fruit punch. Mom could never see why he wanted to drink punch in the morning.
"He left early." Replied mom. "He said that there was an emergency at the cell towers."
My dad worked for AT&T. It was a cool job. We got discounts on our landline, and free cell phones.
I walked over to the freezer and pulled out a frozen waffle. I stuck it in the toaster, and went to the fridge for a glass of orange juice.
My mom spoke suddenly. "Do you know a kid named Shawn Drake?" She asked with a worried look.
"Yeah, he was the one I did that science fair project with." I replied in a normal tone. "Why"
"Well," Mom continued. She had a look of terror with a little sadness mixed in with it. "He was reported missing saturday afternoon. He never came home from school."
