Chapter Three
"What?!", I exclaimed in horror. "That, that can't be!"
"I'm sorry," Said mom.
"Do the police know where she's gone?" I asked hopefully.
"No," mom said. "They don't have any leads. But it says here they are investigating it very hard."
"Ok," I murmured.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I decided to do some investigating of my own. It had been a week, and one more person had gone missing. My best friend, Aaron Doweller. The police had gotten no closer to cracking the case. I decided to patrol the halls after school. since y mom worked until seven, I had an hour before they closed the school.
It felt like no time at all until it was three o' clock. I walked the upper portion of the school, checking all the rooms for something that could be a clue.
As I was heading downstairs, I help a cry for help, and then a shriek. I jumped the last ten stairs, thankfully I didn't hurt my ankle. I ran down the hall towards the sound of the shriek. I stopped outside of the band room. The scream was coming from in there!
I threw open the door, and my jaw dropped to the floor. There was a pink portal thing in the middle of the room. I saw who was shrieking. It was a girl from my math class. She had helped me on plenty of my assignments.
"Help me!" She screamed.
I leapt towards her and reached for her hand. I had just grabbed it when I felt a tugging sensation. Me and the girl, Martha was her name, flew straight into the portal.
It's hard to describe what happened next. We flew out of the other side, and landed back where we had started. Martha was gripping my hand so tightly she was cutting off my circulation. I started to pull my hand away, and she released it.
"Was I hallucinating?" Martha asked.
"No," I replied. "I saw it too. Well, we better go home. I need a while to process what just happened."
"Ok, let's go out the front doors." Martha suggested.
We started for the front doors. They were right next to the office. I pushed open the first set, and as I walked out, I bumped into something. Or, really, nothing. I tried again but I could not move.
"What the heck?" I said quizzically. "I can't move!"
"What do you mean?" Martha asked.
"It's like some sort of force field." I replied.
"That's weird. I wonder if this is a dream. Let's go back inside. I forgot my jacket in my locker." Martha said.
We headed back inside, up the stairs, and to her locker. As we stopped at the locker, I heard voices from the other room. I looked inside, and for the second time today, my jaw hit the floor. I saw Shawn Drake, Samantha Robets, and Aaron Doweller.
"Guys!" I exclaimed. I burst through the door, and everyone looked towards me. They all started to rush over.
"Tony, what are you doing here?" Aaron asked. "How did you get here?"
"I only walked up the stairs." I replied. "Why have you guys been hiding for so long?"
"We're not hiding." Shawn told me. "You saw me in the window two weeks ago, remember?"
"Yeah, but I turned around and you were not there." I accused. "Why did I see you if you weren't there?"
"We are in a different reality. We can see everyone, but they can only see us if we stand in front of a mirror." Samantha explained.
"So, what do we do?" Martha asked. "We can't go home, there is a force field thing around the school."
"Well, we can stay here," Aaron said. "We can't go hungry for some reason, and we never get tired. That's why we have been here for a while."
"Yes, and you will stay here until I'm done with you!" A voice from the doorway spoke. We all turned toward it, and saw our principal.
"Principal Wallace, what do you- hey, you can see us?" I exclaimed.
"Yes, I can see you." He replied. "I can't let you leave until I have captured more people."
"Why are you capturing people?" Aaron asked, a hint of fury in his voice.
"Well, I found this strange, little device, that with the help of seven people, can give me the power to rule the world! You will soon call me, Supreme Leader Wallace! Mu-hahahahahahahaha!"
