Chapter 1 - Divorce

DANIEL HUNT

Daniel Hunt had seen how happy his family really was and had agreed to his mother's accusations of not spending enough time with her.

Cassandra Hunt had just recently told them that they had a brother and Logan and Sean and Daniel had accepted him. Though Zachary stayed all the way over to Australia, he came for the monthly get togethers.

Daniel looked over at his phone. It was 2 in the morning and he couldn't sleep.

A ding of the cellphone brought a smile on his face.

Grabbing his phone he looked at the screen only to see that it wasn't from who he thought it would be.

It was Karina.

Karina Hart was a diagnostisian who worked for his cousin Dave and had recently moved away to Australia with Zachary.

That woman was fun and a good friend to Daniel. Something even his own brothers weren't.

That had instilled an insecurity in his heart.

Sean had pushed him away after the accident he had when he was a child. He still had a scar on his face and he wore it proudly. Dan wasn't insecure about his scar. It was about how easily his family had let him go.

Daniel loved going on his months long excavation trips. He loved being away from family because then he wouldn't have to think about how easily his brothers had pushed him away.

Hell, they hadn't even bothered to call him up.

Amongst all his friends and family, only three people called him up. Karina, his mother - Cass and Lexi.

Logan called up whenever Daniel was needed but never to just ask about him or say hello.

Alexis was the best thing that could happen to the Hunts. She was kind of like a duplicate of Cassandra. The woman had taken care of a fourteen year old when she herself was just in her early twenties.

How had Logan even managed to make her fall in love with him was beyond Daniel. He never understood but he liked it that she made his brooding, grumpy elder brother smile.

Dan: Sup?

Kari: Nothing. Just checking up on you.
Dan: 😒I'm not a kid.

Kari: No. But you act like one the moment you step home.

D: 👅

K: Silly. So now that you're staying why don't you ask your old flame out.

Dan didn't reply to that.

Nobody knew he liked Kayla, except for her Kari since she had picked up Kayla's sign.

Kay was a beautiful woman with beautiful brown eyes. Her eyes always twinkled and there was always some mischief cooking in that smart brain of hers.

Her straight midnight black hair flowed down her shoulder and one unruly hair that always came out of her bun that she tied during cooking.

She packed a mean punch and a hell of a lot of attitude.

And Dan loved every single thing about her. Most of the woman Dan dated had always been clingy and expecting things from him and wanted to be their protector.

Daniel wanted a companion who could hold her own weight in a situation.

That was one reason why he had dated Tessa Cole. Tessa was Lexi's sister and had gone through some rough problems because of his cousin.
But the woman never gave up on herself. Sure she was broken from the inside but her will was strong and that's what he loved about her. Unfortunately, she didn't love him and though Dan loved her certain qualities, he didn't love her either.

Dan: She doesn't want me and I'm not approaching her.

Kari: Why not?

Dan: Because you have never received the brunt of her punch.

As he hit send on the text Daniel rubbed the spot on his abdomen.

Yeah he still ached as he remembered the punch she had delivered when she was angry with him.

Kari : Look at you, scared of a woman.

Dan : Honey, you women are not normal. You came from some other galaxy and had instilled your love in our hearts.

Kari: 😂😂. Okay. I need to go. Zach's home. Just call me up if you need to talk. I'm right here.

Dan: Thanks sweetheart.

Daniel didn't know why Kari didn't let him be like the rest of his family.

His parents expected to meet with him every month. But his brothers didn't much care if he was there or not.

He kind of hated the fact that he still cared whether they liked him or not.

Shaking his head he sat up and grabbed his phone.

He was about to dial when the doorbell rang. Once. Twice. Thrice. It kept going on.

"Hold your horses." He yelled and jerked upon the door to find that one person he had least expected.

Daniel instantly ducked as he had learned her tells.

The whoosh just above his head proved him that she did indeed punch but he had safely ducked.

"You son of a bitch."

Dan flew back as he felt her kick him in the stomach from when he had ducked and sat on his haunches.

She came at him like a freight train.

Daniel rolled from where he laid.

He jumped back and saved himself from another punch. But he wasn't any less trained.

Grabbing her outstretched hand he pulled her in and trapped her hands between them as he wrapped his arms around her waist. He held her tight as she wriggled and he groaned.

"You wiggle like that anymore, you won't like what happens next."

"You bastard. Let me go."

They both knew she could get out within a heartbeat but she didn't want to and neither did he want to let her go.

"What happened?"

Her eyes widened, "What happened? We're married. And I know you have something to do with."

He smiled as he remembered that day as if it happened just yesterday.

"Of course I had. I was the groom." He chuckled.

"You fooled me." Her eyes narrowed

"It was your idea, Kay. You wanted to get married. I was drunk and - " he cleared his throat before he could blurt out how he felt for her back then.

"Well, then you weren't drunk enough to not remember it."

He sighed. There was no way he could make her understand what happened that night. At least not without pouring his heart out when she was the one who had left him all alone.

"What do you want, Summers?"

"I want a divorce."
